EXPLOSION & EXPANSION: Celebrating 90 Years of Creative Excellence at Tama Art University
Tama Art University, located in Setagaya, Tokyo, is set to commemorate its 90th anniversary in 2025. In honor of this milestone, the university will launch a series of exhibitions under the theme
"TAMABI BEYOND." The main event, titled
"EXPLOSION & EXPANSION: The Creative Power of Tama Art University," will be held at the
Tama Art University Museum from
October 19 to
November 3 of the same year.
A Glimpse into an Artistic Universe
The exhibition aims to capture the vibrant energy and diverse creativity fostered by the university. The term
"EXPLOSION" refers to the founding of Tama Art University in 1935, likening it to a Big Bang. Over the past 90 years, the institution has boldly expanded its influence, continuously leading the forefront of art education in Japan. Attendees will have the chance to explore the latest dimensions of the
artistic universe that the university represents.
Showcasing Talented Artists
The exhibition will feature 13 selected students and three teams currently enrolled in the university. These artists were chosen not merely for their academic achievements but for their ability to create compelling works that resonate within the unique atmosphere of the exhibition space. This venue, known as
BLUE CUBE, previously operated as a METRO supermarket, adding layers of historical significance to the event.
The Venue and Its Significance
Located near the Hachioji campus in Machida, Tokyo, BLUE CUBE was acquired in 2022 and is currently being prepared for future projects by the university. The structure retains many aspects from its days as a supermarket, allowing artists to engage with its unique spatial qualities. Visitors can anticipate an exhilarating art space representing the university's principles of
freedom and creativity.
