Dive Inc. Selected as Secretariat for Local Hot Springs Revitalization

Dive Inc., headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has been recognized as the secretariat for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's upcoming project, "Support Project for the Town Development through the Removal and Renovation of Abandoned Buildings in Local Hot Spring Areas" for the 2023 fiscal year. This major initiative will last until March 2025, aiming to breathe new life into Japan's local hot spring districts that have suffered from the decline of large-scale ryokans and other accommodations

Background and Objectives

The landscape and safety of Japan’s local hot spring towns have been adversely affected by the increasing number of abandoned buildings. Many of these structures were originally constructed to accommodate group travel and are now facing significant disrepair. The financial burdens associated with demolition and reduction have posed a considerable barrier to rejuvenation efforts within these areas.

This project focuses on removing these dilapidated structures in prime locations within hot spring areas and providing subsidies for the transformation into new accommodations and related services. The ultimate goal is to reinstate vitality in local towns and boost tourism through the revitalization of these areas and sustainable tourism development.

Dive’s Role as Secretariat

As the appointed secretariat, Dive Inc. will undertake several pivotal roles in managing and operating various aspects of this initiative:

1. Public Recruitment and Evaluation Support: Assist in the necessary operations for public recruitment targeting indirect subsidy providers.
2. Subsidy Management: Execute the series of tasks related to the distribution of subsidies.
3. Project Management: Oversee the activities conducted by indirect subsidy providers, including management, supervision, reporting, and handling interactions with the Board of Audit of Japan.
4. Outcome Dissemination: Compile exemplary cases, summarize project results, and prepare reports to communicate the successes of the initiative.

Impact on Performance

The expected impact of this project on Dive's overall performance is assessed to be minimal. However, the collaboration presents a substantial opportunity to contribute positively toward the regeneration of Japan's cherished hot spring culture and the enhancement of its scenic towns.

This initiative is more than just a construction project; it’s an endeavor to restore charm and safety to our beloved local hot springs—ensuring they continue to be a vital part of Japan’s cultural and tourism landscape for generations to come.
