RICCAR's Global Expansion
The renowned Japanese sewing machine brand, RICCAR, has recently achieved a significant milestone by securing trademark rights in six countries.
NOEXCUSE Co., Ltd., based in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, has announced this achievement for its iconic brand. The countries in which RICCAR has obtained its trademark include the Philippines, Cambodia, Singapore, Bangladesh, Australia, and New Zealand, strategically located in the Asia and Oceania regions.
With a rich history of being a household name, RICCAR has been synonymous with high-quality sewing machines in Japan. This recent trademark acquisition marks a pivotal step for the company, laying the groundwork for future product sales and service offerings in these new markets. As the company embarks on this journey, it aims to strengthen its presence and establish trust with local consumer bases, given that major European and American markets are already dominated by third-party trademark holders.
Vision for the Future
In a statement, the CEO of NOEXCUSE,
Kazuhira Kuwabara, expressed a desire to reintroduce RICCAR to households around the world, highlighting a commitment to craftsmanship synonymous with Japan. “We want to take our time, but we intend to move forward steadily starting from these newly acquired countries,” he stated, inviting anticipation for the brand's future endeavors.
A Rich History in the Sewing Industry
The RICCAR brand boasts an illustrious history, particularly during the 1970s when affordable ready-made clothing was scarce, especially in Japan's domestic market. Sewing machines, therefore, became essential for most households. RICCAR, along with other local manufacturers, played a crucial role in this trend, establishing itself as a dominant force in the industry. Holding a top market share, RICCAR solidified its status as one of Japan's three major sewing machine makers.
In addition to its market influence, RICCAR has a history of engagement with television, sponsoring various programs and even participating in the 1970 World Expo in collaboration with Wacoal Corporation. Their powerful marketing strategies, including advertisement campaigns featuring popular musicians, contributed to the early success of their
Mighty Series, famously dubbed the “Electronic Needle Box.” This propelled RICCAR into the limelight, earning them a cherished place in the hearts of sewing enthusiasts.
New Developments on the Horizon
In a strategic move,
NOEXCUSE acquired the trademark rights for RICCAR from
Yamano Holdings in 2022. The company is diligently working on the development of new RICCAR sewing machines, with plans to launch a home-use needle punch machine in 2024, followed by a new model of household sewing machines anticipated in mid-May 2025. They are actively sharing updates and product information across various social media platforms, keeping fans informed and engaged.
