The ERS Project: Engaging the Next Generation of Business Leaders
At the Nagoya Management School, students enrolled in the English MBA and MSc programs are actively participating in a unique initiative known as the ERS Project. This project focuses on the interconnections between ethics, responsibility, and sustainability in contemporary business practices. By integrating experiential learning with theoretical knowledge, students explore how ethical decision-making and sustainable management can enhance corporate credibility and long-term value creation.
The ERS Project collaborates with multinational corporations (MNCs) based in Aichi Prefecture, providing a comprehensive understanding of their approaches towards ethics, responsibility, and sustainability. Launched in the 2024 academic year, this project has already seen its second execution, with sessions held in both the spring and fall semesters.
In the spring semester of this year, participating companies included Gisen Co. and Wood Friends Co., while the fall semester featured collaborations with Toyota Motor Corporation and Toyota Tsusho Corporation.
International students form a significant part of the ERS Project, offering them opportunities to visit collaborating companies. During these visits, students engage with managerial staff through interviews and workplace tours, gaining insights into the businesses' ERS initiatives and the challenges they face. Following this, students formulate and present their solutions to the identified issues, alongside developing case studies for submission to the partnering companies.
In a notable instance involving Marubeni Corporation's Nagoya branch during the 2024 academic year, students took their presentation proposals further by creating detailed case studies that were registered with an overseas case distributor and the Japan Case Center.
Through the ERS Project, participants systematically understand the intrinsic aspects of business ethics, responsibility, and sustainability. They gain the ability to apply these insights practically in their future careers. Moreover, foreign students with multinational backgrounds benefit from experiential learning with Japanese companies and the industrial sector, equipping them with the necessary strategic thinking and perspectives to tackle complex global business challenges, thus acting as bridges between Japan and the world as the next generation of leaders.
