Forbes Japan Women Award 2025: Announcement of Winners

The Forbes Japan Women Award 2025 has unveiled the winning companies, showcasing the remarkable contributions made by women in business over the past decade. This prestigious award, organized by Forbes Japan in collaboration with Sustainable Lab, highlights the importance of women's leadership and their role in the growth of organizations in Japan.

Sustainable Lab's Involvement

Sustainable Lab, a Tokyo-based company specializing in ESG data management, analytics, and survey design, has played a crucial role in the award this year by providing cutting-edge data science techniques for the analysis of non-financial information. Under the leadership of CEO Renji Hirase, the company has endorsed the award's mission by offering their expertise in evaluating corporate contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I).

The Forbes Japan Women Award, initiated in 2016, aims to recognize companies that excel in promoting women's opportunities in the workplace while spotlighting businesses committed to fostering an inclusive environment. As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of this award in 2025, the call for greater female representation in leadership has never been more vital.

Award Categories and Survey Design

Within the award framework, three categories exist: Corporate Rankings, Special Corporate Awards, and Individual Awards. Sustainable Lab has taken on the responsibility of developing and analyzing the survey design for the Corporate Rankings category since 2023. The analysis includes the comprehensive evaluation of non-financial data, such as diversity initiatives, workplace environment, and human capital, alongside financial metrics.

This year, as organizations continue transitioning from implementing DE&I initiatives to showcasing their results, Sustainable Lab refined their analysis model to place an emphasis on productivity, performance, and corporate value, ensuring that the outcomes are reflective of comprehensive business health.

Ranking Methodology

In its evaluations, Sustainable Lab focused on 1,607 companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market and an additional 58 submitted applications from various firms. By converting acquired data into deviation values, the final rankings were established according to measurements weighted by thematic relevance and industry standards. Companies that provided higher values beyond the third decimal place were rated higher on the list, demonstrating their commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace.
