Sōkyū Nagamori's Exhibition at Wako
Art enthusiasts in Tokyo are in for a treat as Wako presents the calligraphy exhibition titled "Shion: Light and Wind" by renowned calligrapher Sōkyū Nagamori, running from July 16 to 26 at the Seiko House Hall. This marks Nagamori's second exhibition at Wako in seven years, highlighting his journey and transformation in the art of calligraphy.
The exhibition embraces a theme that combines the teacher's influence and the creative spark, encapsulated in Nagamori’s reflection: "When I encounter words I wish to write, I dwell on them and imagine how they would appear in the sky through my brush." This profound statement reveals the core of his artistic philosophy. His works are characterized by a blend of classical styles and contemporary expressions, echoing the teachings of his mentors, Kaneko Ōtei and Kaneko Sadayoshi.
One can expect to see a variety of pieces including modern poetry, kanji writing, and works infused with colored ink. The exhibition will feature various forms of expression, including poems and haikus, allowing collectors to appreciate smaller framed or scroll works that can enhance any space.
Nagamori’s calligraphy transcends traditional boundaries, merging vivid creativity with a dynamic spirit that resonates with viewers. The artist's pieces will be displayed in an engaging format, making it a must-see for both art lovers and newcomers alike.
Gallery Talks
As part of the exhibition, Nagamori will hold gallery talks on select days: July 20, 23, and 25, starting at 14:00 on each day. This is an incredible opportunity for attendees to gain insights directly from the artist about his creative process and philosophy.
