Call for Entries: Tokyo Children’s Basic Ordinance Poster Contest
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is excited to announce the opening of entries for the 2023 Tokyo Children’s Basic Ordinance Poster Contest, running from July 7 to September 16. This initiative aims to promote a child-centric societal approach by capturing the voices and perspectives of children in government policies. The goal is to create an environment where every child can thrive, filled with hope for both the present and the future.
Overview of the Contest
The Tokyo Children’s Basic Ordinance, enacted in 2021, emphasizes the importance of nurturing an environment supportive of children. As part of this effort, the contest encourages children to engage proactively in the creative process, from deciding the theme to selecting winning artworks. Winners will be announced around December on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s official website.
Contest Details
- - Period: Entries are accepted from July 7 to September 16 (postmarks on the last day are accepted).
- - Theme: “A Town Where Children Can Chase Their Dreams in Tokyo.” Children are invited to illustrate their dreams, whether it be a desired career or an adventurous goal like traveling the world.
Categories of Participation
1.
Hand-drawn Works (Lower Grades): For elementary school students in grades 1 to 3.
2.
Hand-drawn Works (Upper Grades): For students in grades 4 to 6.
3.
Digital Works: Open to all elementary school students.
Submission Format
- - Hand-drawn Works: Use A4-sized paper (landscape format). Feel free to use any materials, and ensure the submission includes the slogan “A Town Where Children Can Chase Their Dreams in Tokyo.”
- - Digital Works: Should be submitted in JPG or PNG format, and similarly contain the required slogan.
Eligibility
Children aged 6 to 13 as of April 1 of the registration year, residing or studying in Tokyo.
How to Submit
- - Hand-drawn Entries: Obtain application forms from the provided URL, complete the required details, attach to the back of the artwork, and mail to the specified address. All necessary details can be found at the following link: Application Form.
- - Digital Entries: Submit directly through the designated online application form.
Awarding of Prizes
An evaluation committee will select the winning entries, followed by online voting from child residents via a monitor system. The results will be disclosed on the government website in December.
Prizes Include:
- - Grand Prize: 1 winner from each category, awarded with a certificate and a bookstore gift card worth 10,000 yen.
- - Excellence Award: 2 winners per category will receive a certificate and a gift card worth 5,000 yen.
- - Digital Special Award: 1 winner from the digital category will also receive a gift card worth 5,000 yen.
Usage of Winning Works
Winners’ artwork will be utilized for promotional activities related to the Tokyo Children’s Basic Ordinance. Notably, the grand prize-winning piece will feature in bus wrap designs across the city.
