Reju's Major Advancement in Textile Regeneration

On April 1, 2026, Reju™, a pioneering company in textile regeneration, announced that it has successfully secured a substantial funding amount of 135 million euros through the NIKI program aimed at promoting climate projects within the Netherlands. This significant financial support is set to facilitate the establishment of a state-of-the-art textile regeneration hub in the Chemelot Industrial Park located in Sittard-Geleen.

The funding will not only cover the initial investment needed for setting up the facility but also support ongoing operations, marking a crucial milestone toward making a final investment decision. The CEO of Reju, Patrik Frisk, expressed gratitude towards the Dutch government and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate, highlighting the importance of expanding commercial technologies that effectively reduce emissions and promote a truly circular textile industry.

The Impact of NIKI Program

NIKI stands for Nationale Investeringsregeling Klimaatprojecten Industrie, which translates to National Investment Scheme for Climate Projects in Industry. This initiative by the Dutch government aims to fast-track industrial decarbonization and support the objectives of the circular economy, both at the national level and in alignment with the European Union's goals. Reju's project aligns seamlessly with these targets, focusing on transforming hard-to-recycle polyester textiles into high-quality circular intermediates for producing new polyester.

The upcoming regeneration center is designed to process post-consumer textiles that would otherwise end up in landfills. By converting this waste into Reju polyester, the facility aims to achieve an approximate 50% reduction in carbon emissions compared to virgin polyester. The regenerated material will then re-enter supply chains, transforming into threads and fabrics ready for final consumer products.

Moreover, the project will emphasize industrial integration, energy and resource efficiency, as well as fully traceable circular supply chains to maximize the substitution of virgin inputs derived from fossil fuels. The Chemelot Industrial Park was chosen for its established industrial ecosystem, shared logistics and public infrastructure, and its proximity to innovation and research centers, all of which will facilitate efficient start-up, operational reliability, and model replication in future locations.
