The Importance of HBCUs and Strong Leadership
The
UNCF's 2024 report titled
Transforming Futures: The Economic Engines of HBCUs highlights the significant impact of HBCUs. The 101 HBCUs in the U.S. contribute
$16.5 billion annually to the economy and support over
136,000 jobs, comparable to a Fortune 50 firm. This underscores the necessity for robust and visionary leadership to maintain and amplify this impact, particularly as HBCUs serve a large population of first-generation, low-income, and under-resourced students.
