Global Governance Seminar Highlights China's Role
On February 24, 2026, a significant event was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, focusing on global governance and the unveiling of the English version of "China's Governance Under Xi Jinping's Leadership." This seminar attracted around 200 attendees, including representatives from various UN agencies, international organizations, and the business community.
The event was addressed by Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office in Geneva, who underscored the importance of dialogue and cooperation in today's changing global landscape. Valovaya highlighted the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), proposed by President Xi Jinping in September 2025, which emphasizes collaborative development and win-win cooperation. She remarked, "The United Nations remains the only place where all the world's nations can gather to address common problems and find shared solutions."
Jia Guide, China's permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, echoed Valovaya's statements, condemning unilateralism, protectionism, and hegemonism as threats to the multilateral order. He cited the GGI as an essential framework for safeguarding international order and enhancing global governance, noting that it has garnered support from over 150 countries and international organizations.
At the seminar, Fu Hua, the President of Xinhua News Agency, presented the first volume of the governance book, which details Xi's governance approach and achievements. Fu described the book as providing a comprehensive view of the significant strides in governance during Xi's leadership, allowing readers to appreciate the depth of his commitment.
He added that Xinhua has been dedicated to advocating essential concepts like the GGI and intends to continue leveraging multilateral dialogue and cooperation among media and think tanks to better showcase China's story on the international stage.
During the seminar, Xinhua also released a think tank report entitled "Upholding International Justice and Jointly Addressing World Turbulence – Focusing on China's Solution to Global Governance," which suggests pathways that China envisions for addressing global challenges.
The seminar's collaborative and high-profile nature highlights China's aspirations and interactions within the global governance framework, signaling its readiness to play a proactive role in shaping international norms and practices as it seeks to build a more inclusive and fair global governance system. The insights shared during the event reflect China’s vision for a collaborative approach to address contemporary global issues and foster peace and development worldwide.
