Innoqua to Showcase Innovative Blue Forest Project at 2025 Expo

Innoqua Inc., based in Chuo, Tokyo and led by CEO Yota Takakura, is gearing up to present three unique exhibits at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka-Kansai. The company, known for its proprietary Environmental Transportation Technology®, focuses on enhancing awareness of environmental conservation and education. The exhibits aim to highlight the intricate beauty of nature, while addressing pressing ecological challenges faced by our planet.

The first exhibit, launching on May 20, will feature a collaborative project called the "Blue Forest Project," held in conjunction with Ikeda Senshu Bank as part of the "Osaka Super Cultural Alley (GUTSU GUTSU CHALLENGE)" within the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion.

Learn More About the GUTSU GUTSU Challenge

Innoqua's exhibit will bring forth a hands-on experience with the "Blue Forest Project: Observing Mangrove Ecosystems Up Close!"

What is the Blue Forest Project?

Mangroves, which thrive in tropical and subtropical coastal areas, are vital ecosystems teeming with biodiversity. They serve as natural buffers against erosion, enhance water quality, and act as carbon sinks in what is termed the "blue carbon ecosystem." Unfortunately, over 20% of the world's mangroves have disappeared in the last 40 years due to aquaculture activities and development, and this trend continues.

To counter this issue, Innoqua has initiated the Blue Forest Project, harnessing its Environmental Transportation Technology® to recreate lively mangrove forests within the Expo venue. This innovative technology utilizes AI and IoT to precisely control water quality, temperature, and light conditions, faithfully mimicking natural ecosystems.

Highlights of the Exhibit

Crowdsourced Ideas: Change the World with Mangrove Innovations!
Mangroves exist at the intersection of land and sea, creating a unique thriving environment often referred to as the "cradle of life." However, their potential remains largely untapped. Innoqua seeks creative ideas that might harness the power of mangroves, whether it's developing sustainable products, educational programs, or new businesses that contribute to preserving these ecosystems while ensuring economic viability.

Theme: "Ideas to Change the World with Mangroves"
  • - Innovative uses of mangroves in products or services.
  • - Groundbreaking systems for mangrove conservation and regeneration.
  • - Initiatives for environmental education and community revitalization through mangroves.
  • - Other creative ideas merging "mangroves and innovation".

Your insights could be the spark to inspire a new movement toward a future interconnected with mangroves! Participants can easily submit their ideas via a QR code available at the exhibit.

Experience the Living Mangrove Ecosystem Up Close
The exhibit will showcase a miniature mangrove ecosystem recreated using Innoqua's Environmental Transportation Technology®. Attendees can closely observe various mangrove species – such as Avicennia and Rhizophora – along with the diverse creatures that inhabit them. This immersive experience will highlight the adaptability and rich biodiversity of mangroves.

Raising Awareness about Mangroves: Importance and Threats
Innoqua will educate visitors about the crucial CO₂ absorption capabilities of mangroves, their role in disaster prevention, and their ability to purify water. The presentation will also cover the pressing threats facing mangrove ecosystems, including land conversion to shrimp farms and unsustainable logging practices, drawing surprising connections to Japan’s food sources.

Insight from Project Leader Takuya Igarashi

Takuya Igarashi, an Ecosystem Engineer at Innoqua, articulates his desire for greater awareness regarding the fascinating and diverse potential of mangroves. He emphasizes the need to inspire curiosity and positive perspectives rather than merely conveying the dire need for conservation. By fostering new use cases and entrepreneurial opportunities in Japan, Igarashi believes it can contribute to global mangrove conservation efforts. He views the Expo as an opportunity for encouraging curiosity and understanding of natural ecosystems, hoping that this can spark ideas that generate a meaningful impact.

Innoqua eagerly anticipates co-creating a vibrant future through mangrove engagement at the Osaka Super Cultural Alley (GUTSU GUTSU CHALLENGE).

Future Plans

Beyond this initial collaboration with Ikeda Senshu Bank, Innoqua plans to host additional exhibits with Kansai University (August 5-11, 2025) and the Blue Ocean Dome (August 4-17, 2025) displaying "Secret Research Lab of Innoqua's Coral Reef Lab at EXPO." More details will be announced in upcoming press releases.
