A Captivating Evening: Tadanori Yokoo and Hiroshi Aramata
On
October 7, 2025, a highly anticipated talk event featuring two iconic figures in contemporary art and academia will take place at the
Kinokuniya Shinjuku Main Store in Tokyo. Celebrating the publication of Tadanori Yokoo's latest books,
Boku no Y Junction Painting and
Boku to Y Junction Photograph, the event promises to explore the intriguing theme of the Dark Y Junction. This phenomenon, deeply woven into the fabric of urban myth, captures the essence of Yokoo's artistic vision, and is sure to inspire and engage attendees.
Celebrating a Unique Artistic Journey
This year marks the
25th anniversary of the Y Junction, an artistic concept that Yokoo has passionately refined over the decades. In anticipation of his
89th birthday on
June 27, 2025, two distinct volumes were simultaneously published:
Boku no Y Junction Painting, which showcases a carefully curated collection of over
120 paintings centered around the theme of the Night Y Junction, and
Boku to Y Junction Photograph, a compelling photo collection that navigates the complexities of this urban maze.
In the
Boku no Y Junction Painting, readers will discover the allure of the Y Junction—an intersection where the energy of mortality manifests into vivid artistry. This collection contains a vast array of works characterized by repeated motifs, a hallmark of Yokoo's creative style, as well as a newly crafted essay that reveals deeper insights into his artistic intentions.
On the other hand,
Boku to Y Junction Photograph offers a thought-provoking journey through images that blur the lines between reality and illusion. With Yokoo himself responsible for the photography and composition, this volume showcases a labyrinthine exploration of the theme, drawing viewers into a world where the boundaries of perception shift.
An Evening of Dialogue and Insight
The event is scheduled to begin at
19:00, with doors opening at
18:40. Tadanori Yokoo and Hiroshi Aramata, both of whom have a longstanding friendship, will engage in lively discussions about their perspectives on the Dark Y Junction. Attendees can expect a multifaceted dialogue that delves into the myths surrounding this theme, interspersed with personal anecdotes and artistic reflections.
Post-discussion, there will be a
signing session where attendees can have their copies of the newly released books signed, although it is important to note that
Hiroshi Aramata will not be participating in the signing. This offers fans a unique opportunity to connect with Yokoo directly and gain insights into his creative process.
Tickets are priced at
1,500 yen, and attendees are encouraged to secure their seats through the Peatix ticketing page starting
September 25, 2025, at 19:00. As the tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, prompt registration is advised to avoid disappointment. Additionally, ticket holders will receive a message soliciting questions for the speakers, making this event an interactive experience.
