Global Conference on Vocational Education Creates Platform for Skills Development Exchange
Global Conference on Technical Education 2024
The 2024 Global Conference on Technical and Vocational Education was inaugurated in Tianjin, Northern China, on November 25, 2024. This significant event focuses on skill development and presents an opportunity for countries to collaborate, share experiences, and showcase achievements in vocational education.
During the conference, the 'Tianjin Consensus on Global Vocational Education Development' was established, serving as a foundational platform for international cooperation in the field of vocational training. Representatives from more than 100 nations participated, including over 600 international guests, emphasizing the event's global significance.
New Zealand's Ambassador to China, Grahame Morton, expressed admiration for China's advancements in enhancing its vocational education system, stating that these efforts have improved quality, accessibility, and employability in key sectors. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering a skilled workforce prepared for modern challenges.
One of the conference's standout features was the Luban Workshop seminar, which marks a substantial step forward in strengthening collaborative ties, particularly between China and Ethiopia. Ethiopian Labor and Skills Minister Muferihat Kamil noted how this partnership has enabled thousands of Ethiopian youth to access world-class vocational training. This education equips them to thrive in today's dynamic global environment.
China's commitment to supporting skill development in Ethiopia includes organizing 34 Luban Workshops across 30 countries, including Thailand, Cambodia, Portugal, Djibouti, Egypt, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. Such initiatives are pivotal in expanding the capabilities of the workforce and promoting sustainable development in partner countries.
At the dedicated exhibition on vocational education, the Luban Workshop showcased advancements aimed at nurturing youth in partner nations. Notably, the segment on smart transportation highlighted the progress of programs related to automobile maintenance and intelligent transport and urban railway systems.
A landmark announcement at the opening ceremony was the launch of the Global League of Technical and Vocational Education and Training. Minister Kamil welcomed this timely initiative, aligning perfectly with Ethiopia's vision for global cooperation. He expressed hope for further enhanced collaboration with China, which offers valuable lessons in skill development that could greatly benefit Africa.
Mustafa Mohamed Mahmoud, Minister of National Education and Vocational Training from Djibouti, shared insights from the conference, particularly the mechanisms used by China to develop and manage its vocational education system. He emphasized the imperative for African countries to align with global advancements, especially amid ongoing industrial and technological revolutions.
With the theme 'Innovation Opens Future Opportunities, Skills Illuminate New Lives,' the conference has become a pivotal gathering for over 1,200 representatives from domestic and international communities. It stands as a testament to the importance of collaboration in addressing educational needs and workforce readiness in an ever-evolving global landscape. The conference is anticipated to pave the way for new educational initiatives that will enhance vocational training worldwide, ensuring participants can adapt and lead in their respective fields.
