LG's Life's Good Coaches Award: Honoring Mental Wellness in Sports
As the importance of mental health continues to gain recognition in sports, LG has taken a significant step towards promoting mental wellness among student-athletes with its second annual
LG Life's Good Coaches Award. This prestigious award celebrates NCAA coaches who prioritize the mental well-being of their athletes, helping them navigate the challenges of sports and life.
A Call for Nominations
The nomination process is officially open for this year’s award, which seeks to recognize coaches who actively contribute to fostering an environment of personal growth for their student-athletes. NCAA student-athletes are encouraged to submit nominations for coaches who have positively impacted their lives, either individually or collectively. The window for nominations will remain open until
September 15, 2025, allowing plenty of time for athletes to reflect on the mentors who have made a difference in their journeys.
“LG aims to champion coaches who consistently cultivate supportive spaces that facilitate open conversations around mental health,” said
Jeannie Lee, LG's Director of Corporate Marketing. “These leaders play a crucial role in the holistic development of their student-athletes, extending their influence beyond just the game.”
The Role of Coaches as Mentors
Coaches often serve as pivotal figures in the lives of student-athletes, providing strong guidance that influences them on and off the field. In many cases, these mentors create nurturing environments where athletes feel comfortable discussing their mental health challenges, breaking down the stigma that surrounds mental wellness in sports. The award aims to shine a light on these impactful coaches, highlighting their ability to create spaces where mental health dialogue is encouraged.
Highlighting the Impact
To further amplify the voices of nominees, student-athletes will have the opportunity to submit short videos showcasing their coaches' influence and the positive impacts they’ve made. This added feature promises to enhance the personal connections between nominees and the athletes they inspire.
The selection of finalists will be conducted by a panel of judges consisting of professionals from both sports and mental health sectors. The two final recipients of the award—one representing a men’s NCAA program and the other representing a women’s NCAA program—will be announced during the halftime of the
2025 CBS Sports Thanksgiving Classic on
November 27, 2025.
Supporting Mental Health Initiatives
Aside from recognition, the selected coaches will receive monetary donations aimed at supporting mental health initiatives at their respective institutions, alongside a suite of LG products. This initiative underscores the profound importance of having supportive mentors in the realm of collegiate sports, emphasizing the need for coaches who are committed not only to athletic excellence but also to the mental well-being of their athletes.
Why This Matters
The
LG Life's Good Coaches Award serves as a reminder of the vital role that mental health plays in sports. As student-athletes juggle rigorous academics and high-pressure competitions, having coaches who genuinely care about their mental health can lead to improved performance, better mental resilience, and overall well-being.
