Texas Wine & Grape Growers Association Opens Entries for 2025 Competition
The Texas Wine & Grape Growers Association (TWGGA) is excited to announce the opening of entries for the 42nd annual Lone Star International Wine Competition (LSIWC). This prestigious event will accept submissions until May 28, 2025, inviting wineries from Texas, the United States, and around the globe to participate.
With a legacy as Texas's oldest international wine competition, LSIWC provides a significant opportunity for vineyards to gain professional recognition and elevate their brand on an international stage. This year, the competition aims to highlight the outstanding quality and diversity of wines produced in one of the fastest-growing wine regions in the country.
A Celebration of Excellence
The LSIWC has been instrumental in promoting winemaking excellence. Each year, award-winning entries help boost the visibility of Texas wine producers. "We are proud to host a competition that not only celebrates the artistry of winemaking but also underscores the strength and innovation within the Texas wine industry," stated Julie Herbort, TWGGA President and Chief Operating Officer of Heath Family Brands.
The competition allows wineries to enter multiple categories. In addition to wine submissions, there’s also a label design competition aimed at recognizing standout visual designs and brand identity. This diverse approach illustrates the comprehensive nature of the competition, which embraces both product quality and marketing excellence.
Important Dates and Entry Fees
Wineries must submit their entries by May 28, with all shipments to be received by May 30. The judging phase is set for June 11-12 in the historic town of Grapevine, Texas, a fitting backdrop for this celebration of viticulture. Results will be announced later that month, creating excitement among participants and the communities involved.
Entry fees for participants stand at $85 per wine for TWGGA members, while nonmembers will incur a fee of $95. For those entering the label design category, the fees are $50 for members and $55 for nonmembers. Though the judging process is closed to the public and entrants, media members are invited to attend the unveiling of the Grand Star and Best in Category medal winners, enhancing the event’s publicity and reach. Interested members of the media should contact the TWGGA office for RSVP details.
Judging Criteria
The judging process for LSIWC is designed to ensure impartiality and quality evaluation. A panel of seasoned wine professionals, sommeliers, and graphic design experts will conduct blind judging based on various criteria, including appearance, aroma, body, taste, and finish. This multifaceted approach guarantees that only the finest wines and designs receive acknowledgment.
