Pioneering Inclusive Emergency Care
One of Lt. Studley's groundbreaking contributions has been the establishment of a Functional Needs Registry, a voluntary system allowing residents to share critical health information prior to emergencies. This registry empowers individuals to communicate their medical conditions, mobility challenges, and communication preferences, thus equipping first responders with the necessary insights to deliver tailored assistance when they arrive on-scene.
Additionally, in 2025, she initiated the use of sensory bags across all Orange County Fire Rescue transport units. These bags contain various tools designed to help manage sensory overload, thereby improving patient comfort and facilitating clearer communication during emergencies. Lt. Studley also spearheads autism and sensory-awareness training within the department’s Preceptor Academy, educating responders on sensory triggers and effective de-escalation methods.
Engaging the Community
Beyond her departmental initiatives, Lt. Studley's influence extends into the community. She successfully organized the first Sensory-Friendly Open House for Orange County Fire Rescue during Autism Awareness Month. This event, in collaboration with the University of Central Florida's Center for Autism and Related Disabilities and Crayola Experience Orlando, provided an opportunity for neurodiverse individuals and their families to interact with first responders in a low-stimulation environment.
Through these efforts, Lt. Studley has significantly bolstered the trust between first responders and the residents of Orange County, fostering a safer and more inclusive community.
