Exciting New Pickleball Courts at Rusutsu Resort
This summer, Rusutsu Resort in Hokkaido has unveiled Japan’s first official pickleball courts, certified by the Japan Pickleball Federation. A dynamic and rapidly growing sport, pickleball combines elements from tennis, badminton, and table tennis, making it a unique and engaging activity for all ages. Utilizing a specially designed paddle and plastic ball with holes, players can enjoy the game on a smaller court that is one-third the size of a tennis court.
Pickleball has been surging in popularity across the United States, and significant attention is also shifting towards this sport in Japan. In fact, the sport was ranked 14th in Nikkei Trendy’s predictions for potential hits in 2025, further fueling interest and engagement with this fun, accessible game.
In response to this global trend, Rusutsu Resort has taken the leap by constructing eight professional pickleball courts. The project was proudly undertaken by Tohato Road Industry Co., Ltd., showcasing their commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure in Japan.
The newly constructed courts utilize a proprietary surface material known as "Pickle Color Tex." This specialized surface is crafted specifically for pickleball courts and comes in a standard selection of vibrant colors—red, blue, and green. Additionally, Tohato Road Industry offers custom color options to meet the diverse preferences of their clientele, making every court a unique experience.
The experience doesn’t stop with just the facilities; the courts are designed with spectator comfort in mind as well. With designated seating areas for viewers, both players and spectators can enjoy the action in a pleasant environment, enhancing the overall atmosphere of the resort.
