Walmart Mexico Partners with Vusion to Transform Retail Experience with Connected Stores

Walmart Mexico Enhances Retail with Connected Stores

Walmart de México y Centroamérica, Mexico's largest retail chain, is on a path of digital transformation. In collaboration with Vusion, a leader in AI-driven retail solutions, Walmart is set to introduce its advanced Connected Store platform, EdgeSense, across all its Express stores by the end of 2026. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize Walmart’s operations, utilizing technology to improve customer interactions, streamline staff workflows, and ultimately elevate the shopping experience.

Expanding the Reach of EdgeSense

The partnership between Walmart Mexico and Vusion marks a significant step in retail innovation in Latin America. Vusion’s EdgeSense technology, which has already made its mark in U.S. stores, will be developed in Mexico’s Express stores. This roll-out represents the largest deployment of connected store technology in the region to date.

By the conclusion of this implementation phase, more than 1.7 million electronic shelf labels and over 180,000 EdgeSense smart rails will be integrated into Walmart’s Express locations. These enhancements are expected to automate in-store operations, thereby improving inventory accuracy and enabling new data-driven functionalities in merchandising and customer engagement.

Objectives of the Initiative

The project aims to achieve several key objectives:
  • - Personalized Customer Experience: Walmart intends to offer shoppers a more personalized and seamless experience by leveraging real-time retail data.
  • - Increased Employee Productivity: By automating routine tasks, Walmart can redirect employees’ focus towards enhancing customer service.
  • - Modern Retail Infrastructure: Upgrading stores with AI-capable technology will facilitate future innovations in Walmart’s operations.

Paul Lewellen, Chief Operating Officer at Walmart de México y Centroamérica, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative. He stated, “The introduction of EdgeSense will help us modernize our store operations further and enable our associates to concentrate wholly on customer service.” This move is positioned as a vital step in strengthening Walmart’s operational capabilities and improving the shopping experience for millions across Mexico.

A Leader in Retail Innovation

Philippe Bottine, Deputy CEO and EVP of Vusion Americas, emphasized the strategic significance of this expansion. “We are thrilled that Walmart is extending its partnership with Vusion to Walmart Mexico. The introduction of EdgeSense in the Express Stores and the planned expansion to Supercenters marks a crucial milestone in our shared vision of creating the Connected Store of the future.” He highlighted how the integration of AI, computer vision, and real-time data could help retailers achieve an unprecedented level of operational excellence while enhancing experiences for both employees and customers.

Walmart Mexico is set to lead the way in retail innovation within Latin America as the first retailer to implement EdgeSense at a large scale. Vusion is eager to support Walmart Mexico in propelling its connected store strategy forward, further accelerating the digital transformation of its retail operations.
