This dual-event format engaged the entire neighborhood in a festive celebration of basketball, bringing together enthusiasts and local families.

The Tokyu Kabukicho Tower has previously been involved in supporting community-oriented basketball events held in Okubo Park by go parkey, making this new venture an exciting expansion into the Kabukicho square, utilizing the entire local area as a vibrant basketball court. The Kabukicho LVGM at Okubo Park featured a remarkable art court made possible through a donation from NBA superstar Kevin Durant. Young aspiring players, under the guidance of B-League pro Michael Parker, attended a kids' clinic, where they experienced firsthand the joy of basketball training. The event also showcased the thrilling King of the Court Japan Game, featuring nail-biting matches among top-tier players.

Celebrations at Kabukicho Shines City Square

At the Kabukicho Shines City Square, attendees enjoyed an array of events, including a dunk contest, a shooting challenge open to the public, and a special 3-on-3 tournament. Children, who had just finished the clinic in Okubo Park, flocked to witness the awe-inspiring dunk performances, cheering enthusiastically for the athletes. The shooting challenge witnessed a series of shots made at the centrally located hoop, accompanied by warm applause from the audience.

Moreover, special contributions from the Japan Sports University Basketball Team, which won the national title in the Spring Tournament of 2026, energized the event, significantly enhancing the experience.

In the special tournament, the originally scheduled King of the Court team had to withdraw, leading to a round-robin competition among four teams: SAITAMA HEARTS.EXE, 44street, PISTOL BROTHERS, and Love Gamers. The intense matches captivated not only basketball enthusiasts but also passersby, as DJ beats resounded vibrantly throughout the square.

As the players faced fierce defenses, they didn’t shy away from taking risks, successfully landing impressive shots that drew roars of excitement from the crowd. The atmosphere became a whirlwind of cheers, even attracting those unfamiliar with basketball, enveloped in the lively energy emblematic of Kabukicho. In the end, 44street emerged as the inaugural champions amid huge applause from the audience.

Renowned street courts like Rucker Park, Dyckman, and West 4th are not merely places of sport; they serve as community hubs. Summer leagues attract NBA stars, inspiring local children to dream big while uniting generations in a spirited atmosphere.

As such, we aim to cultivate this exceptional basketball culture within Kabukicho, nurturing a sense of community and ensuring children can safely pursue their dreams.
