A Magical Evening Awaits at Senshoji Temple's Lantern Festival
On October 19, 2025, the beautiful Senshoji Temple in Yashio City, Saitama, will host a unique event known as the Lantern Festival. Event Details
This yearly festival coincides with the traditional autumn Buddhist observance known as the “Ojyuuya Hōyō,” which honors ancestral spirits and prays for family safety and traffic security. During the Lantern Festival, attendees are invited to write their wishes on lanterns that will be displayed throughout the temple hall, resulting in a warm and inviting atmosphere filled with light and spirituality.

Lantern Making Workshop
A highlight of the festival is the free lantern-making workshop where anyone can join without a prior reservation. To make the occasion even more special, the first 50 participants will receive a complimentary set of fresh vegetables! Moreover, local kindergarten children will also participate in this magical event by contributing their handcrafted lanterns, filled with illustrated dreams and family wishes, which will adorn a section of the main hall and add a lovely touch to the festival ambiance.
Game Corner
For family fun, a free game corner will feature enjoyable games such as strikeouts and ring toss for children and adults alike. Participants will also receive toy prizes for their game participation while supplies last!
Food Trucks
Several popular food trucks will be on-site, offering delicious festival treats such as yakisoba (fried noodles), grilled squid, potato dishes, and even unique game meat options, ensuring there’s something for everyone to savor!
Special Limited Edition Goshuin
A special edition “kirie goshuin” (cut-out temple seal) will be available for purchase during the Lantern Festival. This exquisite shrine seal features intricate cut-out designs, though supplies are limited, making it a perfect memento of the day.
