Unlocking Student Inquiry through Effective Theme Setting and AI
The ever-evolving landscape of education is integrating innovative technologies, and one of the latest buzzwords marching into classrooms across Japan is
generative AI. On August 22, 2025,
Study Valley, an EdTech company based in Edogawa, Tokyo, will be hosting a crucial online seminar titled
“Enhancing the Gateway to Inquiry: Theme Setting and AI Utilization.” The event aims to gather middle and high school educators to deepen their understanding and application of inquiry-based learning.
Seminar Overview
The seminar will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in two parts:
1.
Teacher Practice Case Seminar
2.
Special Seminar on Generative AI in Education
Participating in this seminar is completely free, but registration is required by
noon on August 21, 2025. This opportunity is exclusively available for education professionals and committee members, addressing the pressing need to refine the approach to
theme setting—a vital component in the inquiry process mandated in schools since the 2022 academic year.
Focus on Effective Theme Setting
The first part will feature Kaori Furukawa, an innovative educator from
Obama High School in Nagasaki, who will share practical insights and strategies on how to effectively support students in their inquiry journey. Furukawa will discuss, based on her teaching experiences, how personalized theme setting can ignite students' motivation to engage with their projects while also utilizing AI feedback to improve quality. Her goal is to inspire attendees to create a classroom environment where students foster deeper thinking, resulting in more polished outcomes.
Exploring the Intersection of Education and AI
The second part of the seminar focuses on the recent surge in educational interest surrounding
generative AI and its implications for teaching and learning. Led by Yuki Tanaka, the CEO of Study Valley, the session will dissect the potential benefits and limitations of AI in educational settings. Yuki will guide educators through critical perspectives on how AI can enhance learning experiences and connect to student achievement.
