SOSEI PROJECT: Crafting the Future of Living
In an exciting announcement, SEMPRE DESIGN has unveiled its new furniture brand,
SOSEI PROJECT, in celebration of its upcoming 30th anniversary in 2026. This innovative brand aims to redefine how individuals interact with their living spaces through functional yet aesthetically pleasing furniture solutions. Designed by the acclaimed product designer
Tomoyuki Matsuoka and manufactured by the renowned furniture maker
Karinoku, SOSEI PROJECT emphasizes personalization, creativity, and practicality in home design.
Key Features of SOSEI PROJECT
The brand's philosophy revolves around a unique concept referred to as the
70% Product. This approach entails designing furniture that is 70% complete, allowing the remaining 30% for users to personalize according to their taste and needs. At the core of this concept is a versatile
hook, which serves as an entry point for various components like bars, plates, boxes, and drawers. These combinations facilitate the creation of diverse furniture forms, including wall shelves, cabinets, wagons, and tables. This flexibility encourages creativity, allowing users to compose their living spaces in innovative ways.
The Name Behind the Brand
SOSEI, meaning
Composition, Revival, and Nature, embodies the idea of furniture that adapts to the evolving lifestyles of its users. This approach not only preserves the beauty of the product itself but also rejuvenates the living space through individual choices and combinations. The brand’s name is derived from its commitment to providing furniture that can be reshaped, revisited, and truly reflects one's personality.
Upcoming Preview Event
The much-anticipated launch of SOSEI PROJECT is set for March 2026, but enthusiasts will get a chance to see these creations ahead of time. A preview exhibition will take place from
October 31 to November 4, 2025, at LIGHT BOX GALLERY in Minato, Tokyo. Visitors can attend a press preview and conference on
October 30, starting at 3 PM, followed by an opening reception later that evening.
Brand Statement
SOSEI PROJECT seeks to address the contemporary challenges of everyday living, encouraging users to reflect on the types of furniture and tools that genuinely enhance their lives. Amidst a world overflowing with information and distractions, the brand aspires to guide individuals toward a more serene and intentional lifestyle. The design ethos of SOSEI combines functionality and artistry, resulting in pieces that seamlessly integrate into people's lives while inspiring creativity and thoughtful engagement.
With the rapid technological advancements enhancing convenience, there are growing concerns that human creativity is diminishing. SOSEI PROJECT attempts to rejuvenate this creative spirit by leaving the final 30% of its designs open to user interpretation, positioning them as
70% Products. This dynamic encourages users to think critically about how to select and arrange these items, resulting in a unique and personalized environment.
Adapting to Changing Lifestyles
Life stages vary immensely—from childhood to adulthood, single living to family cohabitation, and eventually, children leaving home. SOSEI PROJECT's products are intentionally designed to be modular and adaptable, allowing them to transform with the user's needs over time. The beauty of this flexibility is that foundational items such as cabinet frames and wall bars can expand or contract based on the changing dynamics of daily life.
The attention to detail in everyday actions, such as returning tools to their rightful place and maintaining organization, reflects a broader commitment to cultivating an aesthetically pleasing life. SOSEI PROJECT stands ready to support this journey with furniture and tools that foster creativity, serenity, and beauty in everyday living.
