MPC Paris Achieves Stunning Visuals for STUDIOCANAL's Cold Storage With 541 VFX Shots

MPC Paris Delivers VFX and Image Post-Production for STUDIOCANAL's Cold Storage

TransPerfect Media, renowned for its global visual effects and post-production services, has proudly announced the successful delivery of visual effects and image post-production for the film Cold Storage, produced by STUDIOCANAL. This monumental project was spearheaded by MPC Paris and involved completing over 541 visual effects shots throughout an 18-month production timeline.

Comprehensive Visual Effects Collaboration

The film, helmed by director Jonny Campbell, adapts a gripping narrative from a novel published in 2019 by David Koepp. The plot revolves around two employees at a self-storage facility who are forced to confront a terrifying parasitic fungus that escapes from a former military site. The story promises a thrilling experience, complemented by the high-quality visual effects crafted by MPC Paris.

The project stands as a colossal milestone for the studio, representing the most extensive VFX task they have undertaken to date. A dedicated team of 431 artists and technicians played pivotal roles across various departments, contributing their talents to various visual effects tasks ranging from subtle corrections to breathtaking large-scale destruction scenes, and intricate creature animations.

According to Nikolas D'Andrade, one of the VFX supervisors at MPC Paris, Cold Storage required a full spectrum of visual effects capabilities. The team's portfolio included everything from minor refinements to the total destruction of environments, showcasing their expertise in digital set extensions and CG (Computer Generated) environments that easily transport audiences into an exhilarating cinematic world.

Streamlining Image Post-Production

MPC Paris didn't stop at visual effects; they also took charge of the entire image post-production process. This comprehensive approach ensured that picture conforms, grading, and the final deliveries for both theatrical and home entertainment formats—including Dolby Vision masters—maintained visual coherence from the editing room to the audience's screen. By seamlessly integrating laboratory and VFX workflows, the studio upheld a consistent and high-quality visual standard throughout the project.

Phil Shawe, President and Co-CEO of TransPerfect, remarked on the complexity and sophistication of the work achieved by MPC Paris on this project, elucidating how the combination of high-volume VFX and meticulous image finishing has elevated the cinematic experience of Cold Storage.
