Sunwoda's Innovative Digital Battery Passport Shines at 2026 edie Energy & Tech Awards
Sunwoda's Standout Performance at the 2026 edie Energy & Tech Awards
On October 16, 2026, the stunning city of London played host to the 2026 edie Energy & Tech Awards, where industry leaders gathered to celebrate innovative solutions in energy efficiency and technology. Among the notable finalists was Sunwoda's Digital Battery Passport Solution, represented by Wang Qiao, General Manager of Sunwoda Hungary.
Sunwoda's entry was selected as one of the nine finalists in the highly competitive Supply Chain Scope 3 Decarbonisation Project of the Year category, which emphasizes the importance of reducing carbon footprints across supply chains. The awards, orchestrated by the sustainability-focused UK media platform edie, highlighted projects aimed at effectively managing emissions throughout various stages of production and product life cycles.
The Digital Battery Passport Solution is a pioneering tool that connects battery supply chain data, ensuring better management of carbon footprints and enhanced sustainability disclosures across various stakeholders. The solution effectively consolidates battery-related data from raw material sourcing to manufacturing, use, and recycling, addressing the challenges presented by fragmented data across different vendors and sectors.
At its core, the Digital Battery Passport supports the management of product identity, compliance, and carbon footprints in a unified digital record. This provides companies the capability to identify emissions hotspots efficiently while facilitating coordination amongst supply chain partners, thus simplifying the preparation of sustainability disclosures.
Development of the Digital Battery Passport Solution commenced in 2023, leading to collaborative pilots in 2024 and culminating in its launch in October 2025. The platform comprises six functional modules, including supply chain management, traceability mapping, product carbon footprint assessment, due diligence, passport management, and operational management. With 78 indicators, it integrates vital records on material sourcing, environmental performance, and compliance, which empowers partners to access consistent information pertaining to specific battery products.
Crucially, the platform enables secure data exchanges, allowing permission-based access that fosters collaboration while safeguarding sensitive information. With practical applications already in motion, two battery passport pilot projects co-developed by Sunwoda and its partners were featured in the Global Battery Alliance's Battery Passport pilot program in 2024. By 2025, Sunwoda executed five pilots involving 28 key suppliers, demonstrating significant engagement in carbon management practices.
Sunwoda has formed strategic partnerships with several reputable companies, including TÜV Rheinland and Siemens China, to enhance its approach toward battery passport development. These collaborations have further refined their expertise in linking battery data across various organizations and stages of use.
As of February 18, 2027, the EU Battery Regulation mandates that passports must be issued for electric vehicle batteries, light means of transport batteries, and industrial batteries exceeding 2 kWh that enter the EU market or are put into service. In anticipation of these regulations, Sunwoda plans to unveil the second phase of its battery passport platform by mid-December 2026, thereby ensuring that clients can facilitate comprehensive battery disclosures and align their supply chain information seamlessly.
The recognition at the edie Energy & Tech Awards not only underscores Sunwoda's commitment to driving sustainability but also positions the company as a key player in the evolving landscape of energy technology solutions, paving the way for substantial progress in carbon reduction efforts within the battery technology sector.
