Xen Project Unveils Safety Initiative for Functional Systems



On August 17, 2026, the Xen Project, an open-source virtualization platform under the auspices of the Linux Foundation, announced the formation of the Xen Safety Committee. This initiative is set to facilitate collaboration among organizations that seek to develop and manage shared engineering artifacts suitable for functional safety certification.

In an important development for its users, the Xen Project recently extended the support lifecycle for its releases to a duration of five years—comprising three years of standard support and two additional years of security updates. In addition to the formation of the Safety Committee, the Xen Project introduced a new membership tier titled Premier Plus.
