Introducing License-Free Mobility Rentals at HIS Kyoto Tourist Information Center to Meet Growing Travel Demands

New Mobility Solutions for Travelers in Kyoto

As the demand for travel surges both domestically and internationally, WHILL Inc. has announced a collaboration with HIS, a leading travel agency, to launch a rental service for their license-free mobility device, WHILL Model F, at the HIS Kyoto Tourist Information Center. Set against the backdrop of the upcoming Osaka-Kansai Expo on April 13, this initiative aims to enhance accessibility and comfort for tourists visiting one of Japan's most iconic cities.

In anticipation of an increase in both domestic and international tourism, the Japanese government projects that foreign tourist spending in Japan will reach a record 8.1 trillion yen in 2024. This upward trend is expected to continue, especially in the Kansai region, coinciding with the Expo. As part of the preparations to accommodate this influx, HIS has expanded its Kyoto Tourist Information Center, which opened in November 2023, to offer a range of services designed with travelers in mind.

A Comprehensive Visitor Experience

The Kyoto Tourist Information Center not only serves as a hub for tourist information but also provides optional tours, hotel and restaurant reservations, and now, the WHILL rental service. This initiative is tailored to meet the diverse needs of travelers looking for a comfortable experience, especially families and the elderly. The rental service allows tourists to utilize the WHILL Model F, a compact and foldable mobility device that operates at a walking pace, making it ideal for navigating the serene streets of Kyoto.

With its sleek and sophisticated design, the WHILL seamlessly blends into the historical landscapes of Kyoto. Tourists can find the rental center conveniently located just a short walk from Kyoto Station, enabling them to explore the city’s attractions freely and at their own pace. Whether it's spending quality time with family or leisurely visiting local sites, WHILL’s mobility enhances the travel experience exceptionally.

Accessibility and Inclusivity

HIS and WHILL acknowledge the rising demands for accessible travel solutions as Japan faces an aging population and diversifying needs. In addition to the new rental initiative, the Universal Tourism Desk in Shinjuku, Tokyo, offers a selection of WHILL models including Model C2, Model F, and Model R for display, test rides, rentals, and purchases. This commitment reflects a broader vision to ensure every individual can travel comfortably and conveniently across all environments and situations.
