2026 Management Science Research Grants Now Open for Applications

The Japan Management Association (NOMA) based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has officially opened applications for the 2026 Management Science Research Grants. This initiative aims to support individuals and organizations engaged in fundamental and applied research in management science. The available research themes fall into three critical areas:

1. AI and Corporate Management: Exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and its impact on business management practices.
2. Regional Revitalization: Investigating various strategies aimed at enhancing the vitality of local communities.
3. Talent Management and Corporate Value: Analyzing the role of effective talent management in increasing organizational value.

Application Overview

Research Themes

Proposals should focus on one of the following areas:

• - The advances in AI and corporate management.
• - Strategies for regional revitalization.
• - The relationship between talent management and corporate value.

Eligibility

Individuals, research groups, or organizations (including collaborative research) engaged in research in the management science domain can apply, provided they agree to the following conditions:
1. Research findings must be reported within two years of receiving the grant.
2. If unable to report results within the stipulated time, an extension request must be submitted.
3. Failure to report findings will result in a demand for reimbursement of the grant.

Award Details

Grants will be awarded to a select number of research proposals, with funding ranging from 500,000 to 1,000,000 yen per project.

About the Management Science Research Grants

Established as part of NOMA's 20th-anniversary project, the Management Science Research Fund was founded in 1969 to support notable achievements in management development within Japan. The grants aim to encourage research contributing to the advancement of management science.

The first recipients of the Management Science Research Grants were the Kasugai Laboratory at Waseda University's Faculty of Science and Engineering, led by Professor Hiroshi Kasugai, and Professor Sadao Yokoyama of Musashi University. Notably, the inaugural Management Science Meritorious Award was awarded to Professor P.F. Drucker from New York University in 1969.

Although the Management Science Meritorious Award was concluded in 1998, the Management Science Research Grants are now accepting proposals for the 57th consecutive year, having funded over 130 research projects to date.
