Huawei Lights Up MWC Shanghai 2025 with 5G Advanced and AI Innovations
At the MWC Shanghai 2025 event, Huawei proudly announced that the total number of users for its 5G Advanced (5G-A) technology has reached a significant milestone of 10 million in China. This announcement comes alongside the company's exhibitions themed "Accelerating the Smart World", where Huawei demonstrated its latest advancements in harnessing AI agents for scenario-based applications and monetizing the 5G-A experience.
Showcasing the Future of 5G-A
The event attracted global operators, industry partners, and thought leaders, all aimed at exploring new growth avenues for operators through AI technology. Huawei's main exhibition focused on three critical areas: commercializing 5G-A user experiences, sharing successful AI applications, and enhancing network infrastructures.
During the showcase, Huawei highlighted various projects developed in collaboration with China’s three major telecommunications operators. These projects aim to demonstrate successful use cases of scenario-based AI applications, termed AItoX, which aim to improve user engagement and operational efficiencies.
Moreover, Huawei introduced a comprehensive solution called AI Ultra Broadband (AI UBB), designed to enhance network performance through embedded computing capabilities. This solution is expected to transform end-to-end operations ranging from home broadband to carrier-grade networks, ultimately driving autonomy and improved user experiences.
Experts Discuss Opportunities and Challenges
At the event, Eric Xu, Huawei's Vice Chairman and Rotating Chairman, delivered an insightful opening speech on the current state of the telecommunications industry. He explained that following nearly forty years of rapid growth, the sector is now transitioning into a period of steady development.
Xu noted several challenges confronting new growth opportunities in telecommunications. These include responding to evolving user needs, increasing demands for high-definition video content, introducing 5G across various devices for intelligent connectivity, and optimizing opportunities in AI through innovative strategies for micro and small enterprises.
He emphasized, “Every operator is distinct, with different markets and competitive landscapes. Therefore, their paths toward growth will also differ. We are prepared and willing to help operators uncover unique opportunities for sustainable growth.”
Global Lead in 5G-A Implementation
China has emerged as a global leader in 5G-A, currently providing this advanced technology across over 300 cities. Operators have begun rolling out 5G-A mobile plans in over 30 provinces, and the number of 5G-A users continues to soar past ten million.
In addition, operators in regions such as the Middle East and Asia-Pacific are actively exploring innovative frameworks to monetize experiences while premium upgrade initiatives unfold. 5G-A promises ultra-fast networking capabilities, supporting smart transformations across various sectors including transportation, smart living, and manufacturing.
The telecommunications industry is on the brink of significant disruption thanks to AI-driven innovations, with the successful monetization of new user experiences paving the way for a forthcoming growth phase.
Operators are strategically positioned to embrace this surge in artificial intelligence, leveraging their natural synergies in cloud, network, and computational fields. They are utilizing AI to transform their services, infrastructures, and operations, unlocking new drivers for business growth.
Many telecom operators are rebranding themselves as providers of personalized, integrated AI-driven agents accessible to consumers. This includes enhancing existing services in the smart home market through the coordination of various smart devices for an improved user experience. Operators are also entering the vehicle service market by integrating AI tools and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies, creating smart mobile third spaces which significantly improve in-vehicle service.Dedicated to empowering enterprises, telecoms are elevating their capabilities by developing network services and model-based offerings.
