Airmedic Expands Internationally with New Medical Cabin for Bombardier Learjet 45XR
In a significant advancement for air medical transport, Airmedic, a leading name in specialized aerial medical services, has introduced a cutting-edge medical cabin designed for its Bombardier Learjet 45XR aircraft. Announced on June 17, 2026, this innovative cabin has already been integrated into a Learjet, establishing a new benchmark for critical in-flight care.
Enhancements for Patient Care and Medical Efficiency
The new permanent medical cabin is the result of Airmedic's extensive operational experience. It optimizes medical team workflows, enhances patient access to clinical care, and ensures immediate availability of essential equipment. These features allow personnel to manage complex patient transports with improved accuracy and comfort.
Louis-Philippe Loiselle Fortier, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Airmedic, emphasized, "This investment underscores our commitment to excellence in airborne care. By closely analyzing real mission outcomes, we have developed a cabin that removes barriers for our teams, strengthens clinical continuity, and provides a safer, more comfortable environment for patients and their families on both short and long-distance repatriation flights."
State-of-the-Art Features for Critical Transport
Airmedic's new cabin includes several innovative features tailored for critical care transport. It is equipped with an advanced LifePort stretcher system, a composite wall clad in stainless steel for hygiene and durability, and custom medical cabinets that keep essential equipment protected yet immediately accessible. Specialized tracks afford proper mounting of medical devices above care areas, ensuring that critical equipment is easily reachable and ergonomically positioned for care professionals.
Moreover, the spacious loading area is designed to facilitate patient handling, including those requiring incubators or bariatric provisions. Medical-grade surfaces have been implemented for efficient decontamination between missions, while a custom privacy curtain ensures patient dignity during flight. Furthermore, the cabin incorporates a new SATCOM communication system and Skytrac ISAT-200A flight tracking, significantly enhancing in-flight coordination and allowing crews to communicate with doctors hands-free without interrupting patient care.
Investment in Global Medical Repatriation
The upgrade of the Learjet 45XR is just the beginning of Airmedic’s broader modernization strategy. The company is already planning to outfit a second aircraft with an identical medical configuration in the coming months, with total investments nearing CAD 2 million for the outfitting of both cabins. These upgrades form part of a larger CAD 18 million commitment to modernizing Airmedic's Bombardier Learjet 45XR fleet, enhancing its international medical repatriation program.
"By permanently dedicating these aircraft to medical operations, Airmedic reaffirms its priority to invest in reliable clinical environments designed for the realities of modern aeromedical transport, continually elevating care standards in the air," Fortier added.
Local Roots with Global Reach
Beyond international repatriation missions, Airmedic's aircraft remain on standby at all times to support urgent inter-hospital transfers within Quebec's healthcare network. This commitment to local service remains central to Airmedic's mission, which has expanded its global offerings over the past three years, utilizing both ambulatory aircraft and medical escorts on commercial flights. Strategically headquartered in Montreal—a hub for transatlantic routes between Europe and the Americas—Airmedic holds international EURAMI accreditation, blending its local connections with a worldwide reach.
