In a grand celebration held at the iconic Museu Histórico Nacional in Rio de Janeiro on November 26, 2024, Don Julio in Buenos Aires was honored as the Best Restaurant in Latin America for 2024, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. This marks a significant achievement as Don Julio has reclaimed this prestigious title for the first time since 2020, making a remarkable jump from last year's No. 3 ranking.

Don Julio is not just a restaurant; it is a gastronomic landmark known for its exceptional Argentine parrilla experience. The eatery is celebrated for its classic steaks, an extensive and carefully curated wine list, and renowned hospitality. Under the skilled leadership of restaurateur and sommelier Pablo Rivero, Don Julio has garnered global recognition as the epitome of Argentine cuisine. Rivero has further enhanced his reputation by receiving the coveted title of the Beronia World's Best Sommelier, awarded at The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2024 gala.

William Drew, Director of Content for Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants, expressed delight in recognizing Don Julio once again. He praised the restaurant as a special place that expertly showcases Argentine cuisine, aiming to bring it to the forefront on the global stage. Drew extended congratulations to all recognized establishments, underscoring a commitment to promoting Latin American culinary excellence.

Buenos Aires solidified its reputation as the top culinary hub in the region by maintaining eight restaurants within the prestigious 1-50 ranking, on par with its performance in 2023. Lima and São Paulo followed closely, each represented by seven esteemed restaurants. Among these, Maido in Lima took the second position, earning the title of the Best Restaurant in Peru, while El Chato in Bogotá secured the third spot, being named the Best Restaurant in Colombia.

The 2024 awards show also celebrated other distinctive talents and achievements within Latin America's gastronomic landscape. Colombian chef-restaurateur Harry Sasson received the Woodford Reserve Icon Award for his impactful contributions, particularly for his flagship restaurant in Bogotá. Camila Fiol was recognized as Latin America's Best Pastry Chef for her famed Fiol Dulcería in Santiago, showcasing her innovative approach to desserts.

Among the newcomers, Trescha in Buenos Aires made waves by entering the list at No. 33 and winning the Highest New Entry Award. Known for its exclusive 14-course tasting menu and only ten seats, Trescha is led by chef patron Tomás Treschanski, who skillfully blends global culinary influences to create unforgettable dining experiences.

In addition to Don Julio and other acclaimed restaurants, the awards highlighted Rafael in Lima for the Highest Climber Award, illustrating its impressive rise from No. 46 to No. 19 in just one year.

A strong emphasis on sustainability also emerged, with Lunario in Valle de Guadalupe winning the Sustainable Restaurant Award, recognized for its commitment to using locally sourced organic ingredients.

This year's voting process involved 300 members from the Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants Academy, comprising journalists, chefs, and industry leaders who cast votes based on their dining experiences over the previous 18 months. Each voter provided insights into their top ten culinary encounters, ensuring a diverse representation across countries.
