Scott Altman Takes on Strategic Engagement Leadership Role at ASRC Federal
Scott Altman, the former NASA astronaut and current president of ASRC Federal's Space Operating Group, has recently been appointed as the new Executive Vice President of Strategic Engagement at ASRC Federal. This newly established role is designed to enhance engagement with stakeholders at the enterprise level, allowing for stronger connections between the government, customers, and strategic partners. In the new role, Altman is expected to leverage his extensive experience to align ASRC Federal's workforce more closely with the company’s mission, including its shareholder programs.
In his previous position, Scott Altman successfully oversaw ASRC Federal's Space Operating Group for six years, demonstrating his leadership capabilities and commitment to advancing aerospace solutions for key clients such as NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the U.S. Space Force. His strategic insights and deep industry knowledge have been pivotal in securing significant partnerships, making him an ideal candidate for the strategic engagement role.
Jennifer Felix, the president and CEO of ASRC Federal, emphasized the importance of Altman's appointment, stating, 'Scott has been shaping ASRC Federal's aerospace solutions for more than a decade…we are seeking to optimize his impact across the enterprise with this new position.' Altman’s track record includes expanding engineering contracts with esteemed organizations such as the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Oklahoma City, and work supporting the Artemis missions.
Before joining ASRC Federal, Altman served as a NASA astronaut and shuttle commander, bringing a wealth of experience from his military background as a retired Navy aviator. His contributions to NASA's missions earned him a place in the Astronaut Hall of Fame and prestigious awards, including the George C. Marshall Award in Ethical Leadership.
Accompanying Altman's elevation is Mike Mazzella, who has been promoted to lead ASRC Federal's Space Operating Group. Mazzella brings over three decades of experience from his time at SAIC, where he was integral to the success of various civilian business operations. He has been the Chief Operating Officer of the Space Operating Group for the past 18 months, contributing to its growth and operational excellence.
With his educational background featuring an MS in engineering management from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in computer science from the State University of New York at Oswego, Mazzella is well-equipped to steer the Space Operating Group towards continued success. Under his leadership, the group aims to maintain robust growth while ensuring high-quality operations across its projects.
