ChangAn Unveils Global Expansion Plan with New NEV Factory in Thailand

ChangAn Launches International NEV Factory in Thailand

ChangAn Automobile, a key player in the low-carbon mobility sector, has recently inaugurated its first international manufacturing facility for New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in Rayong, Thailand. This significant event aligns with two notable occasions: the production of the company's 28.59-millionth vehicle and the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. This factory not only represents a pivotal moment in ChangAn's global expansion strategy, known as the Vast Ocean Plan, but it also marks a shift towards exporting full industries rather than just products.

A New Era for ChangAn

Chairman Zhu Huarong emphasized the company's commitment to establishing the new plant as a global benchmark for quality in automotive manufacturing. He reiterated their mission to lead in sustainable mobility while navigating the current anti-globalization challenges. With a strategic focus on low-carbon, localized operations, ChangAn aims to ensure that its advancements benefit human life globally.

The Vast Ocean Plan underscores ChangAn's determination to become a world-class auto brand by 2025. Since its inception in 2023, the plan has driven the company to secure over 14,000 patents, with 70% designated for inventions. This achievement highlights ChangAn's robust research and development efforts, which average 19 patent filings per workday.

Expanding Global Footprint

The new Rayong factory, officially opened in May 2025, marks a shift from mere product exports to the full-scale export of manufacturing capabilities. This includes significant investments in localized production to better cater to various international markets. The factory will initially produce vehicles such as the DEEPAL S05 and an extended-range electric vehicle, which are set to debut at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show.

In addition to the Asia Pacific region, ChangAn's global strategy encompasses diverse markets across Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. In July 2024, a brand conference held in Latin America aimed at the launch of high-value vehicles tailored to meet local demands. This strategic approach follows 30 years of strong operations in the Middle East and Africa, where the company introduced six new energy models in late 2024.

Furthermore, ChangAn has expanded its presence in Europe, having established its Turin Design Center in 2001. A recent launch in Germany underscores their renewed commitment to sustainable automotive solutions that are locally developed.

Objectives for Future Growth

As part of its ambitious goals, ChangAn aims to elevate five major overseas markets to the same strategic level as its domestic market in China. The company's aspiration includes boosting its global production capacity from 30 million to 50 million vehicles. To facilitate this, ChangAn plans to deploy 11 KD projects in strategic locations such as Kazakhstan and Egypt, which is expected to yield an international production capacity of 500,000 vehicles.

Through its Vast Ocean Plan, ChangAn seeks to make high-quality products and advanced services accessible to consumers worldwide at an accelerated pace. This comprehensive strategy ensures that ChangAn is not only a participant in the global arena but a leader in sustainable transportation solutions.
