On May 7, 2025, the Broward Sheriff's Advisory Council (BSAC) welcomed Valerie Silverman as its new Executive Director. This announcement was made during the
Tribute to Bravery Valor Awards Ceremony, an event held at Bahia Mar Resort, that gathered over 300 law enforcement personnel and supporters to honor local heroes for their incredible dedication.
Valerie's journey with BSAC began seven years ago, where she quickly became an invaluable member of the team, serving most recently as Chief of Staff. Her relentless passion for the first responder community and her commitment to BSAC's mission have been instrumental in the organization’s continuous growth and enhancement across Broward County.
During her time at BSAC, Valerie developed strong relationships with local police departments and fire rescue agencies. She dove deep into the pressing issues affecting those on the front lines – from securing vital equipment and technology to standing alongside the families of fallen heroes. Her proactive approach and energetic nature have earned her high praise from her colleagues and the community.
Andy Mitchell, the Chairman of the BSAC Board, spoke highly of Valerie’s contributions. "Valerie has boundless energy and an unwavering commitment to our first responder community," he stated. "Under her leadership, our organization has tripled in size and our future is brighter than ever. The Board of Directors fully supports this appointment and looks forward to even greater impact in the years ahead."
Expressing her thoughts on stepping into this significant role, Valerie shared, "Leading the BSAC is a meaningful opportunity to further my commitment to those who dedicate their lives to protecting others. I am honored to lead an organization that firmly stands behind our law enforcement, fire rescue, and public safety professionals. Our mission – Protecting Those Who Protect Us – guides everything we do and inspires me daily."
Valerie's appointment is effective immediately, setting the stage for a dynamic future for BSAC and the communities it serves. The Broward Sheriff's Advisory Council, recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is dedicated to supporting the first responders of Broward County. Its primary mission includes providing financial assistance to the families of first responders who suffer injuries or loss in the line of duty.
As the focus of the Council evolves, it now encompasses broader investments into the well-being of first responders who serve and protect the community. Collaborating with the Broward County Sheriff and Police Chiefs, the BSAC engages in funding cutting-edge technology and equipment, offering specialized training programs, and initiating community outreach and wellness campaigns.
