Night Cacao's Ambitious Journey to Paris
Night Cacao, a craft chocolate brand by Color Your Life, is set to make history as it announces its debut at the Salon du Chocolat in Paris in October 2025. This prestigious event is known as one of the largest chocolate festivals in the world and marks a significant milestone for a Japanese brand venturing into using Thai cacao as its primary ingredient.
Founded in 2023, Night Cacao prides itself on blending Japan's meticulous chocolate-making traditions with the high-quality cacao beans cultivated in Thailand. Its products, which include a unique line of chocolate meant to be enjoyed at night, such as fresh chocolates and fig-infused chocolates, have quickly won the hearts of many chocolate enthusiasts. The spiced fresh chocolate, in particular, has become a fan favorite.
Driving Sustainable Development in the Thai Cacao Industry
The mission of Night Cacao extends beyond mere product sales. The brand aims to contribute to the sustainable development of Thailand's primary industries, specifically agriculture. In March 2025, Night Cacao plans to launch an industrial development project in collaboration with Thailand's government agency (HRDI) to support cacao farmers in the Nan province. This initiative will focus on enhancing sales support, improving quality, and increasing profitability while also collaborating with various industries related to education, tourism, factory construction, and corporate attractions.
The goal is to create a new regional revitalization model that helps revive the industry by gradually increasing trading volumes with cacao farms that are struggling.
Night Cacao’s participation in the Salon du Chocolat will serve not just as a promotional platform but also as a moment of pride for the cacao farmers of Nan. This event will allow them to showcase the quality cacao produced in their region to the world, reflecting their hard work and dedication.
Challenges Facing the Thai Cacao Industry
The challenges confronting the cacao industry in Nan are significant. Many farmers are contemplating leaving the industry due to a lack of sales channels and price instability. Currently, 69 cacao farms are at risk of ceasing operations. The lack of established market evaluations and distribution systems has made it difficult for farmers to find buyers for their cacao, leading to the unfortunate necessity of cutting down cacao trees that they have nurtured.
Furthermore, Nan province is home to a population where over 70% are ethnic minorities, making it a geographically and socially challenging area to provide support.
To address these issues, Night Cacao has initiated medium to long-term support programs aimed at not just purchasing cacao beans but also developing sales channels, enhancing quality, and promoting farmers' economic independence. The brand is actively working on building a 'partnership model' to sustainably develop the cacao industry alongside local producers.
