In an ambitious pursuit of decarbonizing industrial sectors, Fortescue, one of the globe's preeminent iron ore producers, has officially announced a groundbreaking partnership with Envision Energy, recognized worldwide for its leadership in green technology. Made during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, this landmark agreement signifies a major step toward developing cost-effective and scalable clean energy systems aimed at eclipsing fossil fuels.

At the heart of this collaboration lies a pledge to accelerate global industrial decarbonization. Envision Energy brings to the table its extensive expertise in advanced wind turbine technology, integrated energy solutions, innovative energy storage, and digital energy management. The outcomes of this partnership promise powerful innovations across generation, storage, and grid optimization, heralding a new era of electrification for Fortescue's operations. With ambitious goals to achieve ‘Real Zero’ emissions by 2030, Fortescue is effectively setting a benchmark for sustainable energy practices within mining operations.

Key to this alliance is the agreement for the supply of 132 MW turbines for Fortescue's inaugural significant wind project located in Western Australia’s Pilbara region. By employing Envision’s cutting-edge EN182-7.8MW turbines, paired with the world’s tallest Nabrawind steel towers, this initiative will mark a significant chapter in both companies' quests to eliminate fossil fuel utilization within iron ore operations by 2030. These turbines are designed to excel in low-wind scenarios while withstanding severe weather conditions, including cyclones, thus optimizing energy production for broader application.

Kane Xu, SVP and President of the International Product Line at Envision Energy, emphasized the symbiotic relationship between Australia's wealth of resources and the advanced technology available, stating, "Australia's abundant wind and solar capacities enabled by collaboration can create resilient, low-cost energy systems that can supplant fossil fuels in industrial operations. This partnership will pave the way for significant advancements in renewable energy infrastructure, illustrating how innovation can redefine energy consumption in demanding sectors."

Fortescue’s CEO for Metals and Operations, Dino Otranto, highlighted the unique advantages offered by the Pilbara region, stating, “By utilizing our local wind and solar resources, we're not only diminishing emissions but also constructing a long-term reliable and efficient energy system.” Otranto further noted the synergy between Envision's cutting-edge wind turbine technology and Nabrawind's innovative tower designs, facilitating the emergence of large-scale renewable energy initiatives that will contribute to exiting fossil fuel dependency.

The strategic roadmap for Fortescue includes deploying between 2 to 3GW of wind and solar generation supported by extensive battery storage infrastructure. This renewable energy will be directly routed into the company's electrical network, showcasing a robust advancement in their decarbonization strategy.
