Greenberg Traurig Expands Its Gaming Practice
In a strategic move to enhance its Gaming Practice, the global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has announced the recent addition of Sean McGuinness and Danielle Oberlander Silvestri. With McGuinness joining as a shareholder and Oberlander Silvestri as an associate, their expertise is expected to significantly bolster the capabilities of the firm’s gaming division.
McGuinness, who splits his time between the firm's Denver and Las Vegas offices, comes to Greenberg Traurig after an impressive tenure at Butler Snow LLP. His extensive experience in the Nevada gaming industry spans over 35 years, which includes advising commercial gaming operators, sports betting companies, tribal gaming entities, and financial institutions on regulatory matters, compliance, and licensing. This depth of knowledge positions him as a leading figure in the gaming regulatory landscape.
Beyond his work in traditional gaming, McGuinness is adept in handling cross-border gaming matters and engages actively with international gaming law organizations. His reputation is sealed by consistent recognition in the Chambers USA Guide for his outstanding work in Gaming Licensing. McGuinness also boasts experience in communications law, particularly dealing with FCC broadcast licensing and compliance for various U.S. radio stations.
Danielle Oberlander Silvestri joins him in this venture, further strengthening the firm's gaming credentials. Based in Las Vegas, she is expected to collaborate closely with McGuinness, leveraging her own background and expertise to better serve clients in this evolving industry.
Edward R. Winkofsky, chair of the global Gaming Practice, along with vice chair Erica L. Okerberg, expressed their enthusiasm about the new additions, stating, "As our firm's Gaming Practice has continued to grow, it made tremendous sense to bring Sean and Danielle on board. We are so fortunate to have them join us and bring their skills and experience to our wonderful team." Their insights are anticipated to enrich the firm’s service offerings considerably.
Brian L. Duffy, the chief executive officer of Greenberg Traurig, added, "Sean's previous in-house and government experience, notably as vice president and general counsel of The Resort at Summerlin and compliance director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, adds a layer of unique experience that can only benefit our clients." This diverse professional background underscores the firm’s commitment to being the premier law firm for gaming clients as they navigate the increasingly complex regulatory landscape.
Expressing his eagerness to be part of the team, McGuinness stated, "I am excited to join Greenberg Traurig, a firm that combines deep regulatory knowledge with a truly global platform and a strong Nevada presence. The gaming industry faces unprecedented change as technology evolves and regulations shift to accommodate those changes. I look forward to helping clients capitalize on opportunities and overcome challenges in this dynamic market."
McGuinness holds a J.D., M.A., and B.A. from Drake University and is licensed to practice law in Colorado, Iowa, Mississippi, and Nevada. In contrast, Oberlander Silvestri earned her J.D. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas William S. Boyd School of Law and a B.A. from Grinnell College. She is also admitted to practice law in Nevada.
