Methodology Behind the AI50

The inaugural AI50 list is derived from an in-depth analysis of AI inventions indexed in the Derwent World Patents Index. The strength of each invention is measured using an invention-level metric from Clarivate, with only the top 0.5% of inventions being selected based on criteria that ensure their relevance and strength. Inventions that hold patent family members in at least two countries are prioritized, enabling the ranking of organizations by their volume of qualifying inventions.
