Tirol Chocolate Co., based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, is set to launch a new product: Yaki-Manju in a Bag. Starting from September 11, this delectable treat will be available at Seven-Eleven stores in the Kanto region, particularly in Gunma and Tochigi prefectures. This release celebrates the beloved local delicacy, transforming its traditional flavors into a fun, convenient chocolate experience.

A Taste of Gunma on Every Bag

The packaging of Yaki-Manju prominently features a beautifully baked, plump Yaki-Manju, igniting an instant craving for this local specialty. Adding a playful touch, the beloved Gunma mascot, Gunma-chan, graces the design, infusing a regional charm into the experience. The product comes in four delightful varieties of individually wrapped pieces, each showcasing Gunma-chan in fun poses holding Yaki-Manju, making them perfect for souvenirs or thoughtful gifts.

Capturing Texture and Flavor

Tirol has authentically replicated the essence of Yaki-Manju with a unique twist. The sweet and savory flavor profile comes from a specially formulated miso sauce, while the airy texture of the Yaki-Manju is ingeniously recreated using marshmallow. Although alternative versions featuring red bean paste were tested, the marshmallow was chosen for its ability to convey the quintessential Yaki-Manju experience more effectively.

What is Yaki-Manju?

Originating in Gunma, Yaki-Manju is a local favorite consisting of soft, fluffy buns paired with a generous glaze of sweet and savory miso sauce, baked to perfection. The contrast between the crispy exterior and the pillowy inside offers a delightful bite, with the rich flavors of the miso sauce gradually unfurling with each mouthful. Not merely a snack, Yaki-Manju serves as a light meal, often enjoyed during local festivals or as a common delicacy since the late Edo period.

Product Launch Details

The Yaki-Manju in a Bag will be successively available from September 11, exclusively at Seven-Eleven stores in the Kanto region (Gunma and Tochigi), with a suggested retail price of 345 yen (including tax) for a bag containing 16 pieces. Availability may vary by store, and sales will conclude once stock is depleted.
