LabBase Launches Innovative Grant Program for Researchers in Collaboration with Kracie

LabBase, based in Minato City, Tokyo, is excited to announce the launch of its new platform, LabBase Grant, designed to provide researchers with efficient access to funding opportunities and collaborative projects. This initiative, which begins with the collaboration of Kracie, marks a significant milestone in LabBase's goal of improving the research funding landscape in Japan.

The LabBase Grant is a major upgrade from the existing GrantSearch beta service, introduced in 2022. While GrantSearch allowed researchers to search for funding sources, LabBase Grant expands on this by facilitating the entire process from funding acquisition to societal implementation in a seamless digital platform.

Researchers in Japan often face significant challenges due to a scarcity of research funds and a complicated application process, which diverts their attention from focusing on research. In this environment, companies and foundations looking to provide funding also struggle to identify and connect with researchers who could optimally utilize their grants, leading to missed opportunities for synergy.

The LabBase Grant service comes equipped with features that allow researchers to upload their papers and patent information. The platform then employs AI technology to summarize these documents into user-friendly explanations, making it easier for those unfamiliar with the research to understand. Additionally, researchers can create tailored business proposals that align their societal implementation ideas with the specific interests of supporting companies.

With LabBase Grant, researchers no longer need to customize research summaries and ideas for different funding opportunities. This streamlining enables them to concentrate solely on their research endeavors. Kracie, recognized for its commitment to creating new value in the realms of food, health, and beauty, is the first partner to join forces with LabBase Grant. Through this collaboration, Kracie plans to provide support to researchers at an estimated annual rate of around 1 million yen per researcher, with further details on the support's format and duration to be decided through discussions.

The partnership leverages LabBase's unique network of researchers, facilitating dialogues between researchers from diverse fields who may not have had the opportunity to connect previously. This interaction aims to foster new business initiatives through collaborative societal implementation ideas.

Tamaki Kamo, the CEO of LabBase, expressed his vision for the platform: "Our objective is to provide an ecosystem where researchers can immerse themselves in their work while connecting their findings to society. LabBase Grant is not just about streamlining the acquisition of research funds; it includes a mechanism for expanding opportunities for co-research and commercialization. By employing AI to translate research content and propose collaborative possibilities, we aim to bridge the gap between researchers and society, including companies and foundations. We see this collaboration with Kracie as the first step in building a new research innovation ecosystem that translates research into societal impact."

  • - Researcher applications are scheduled to open in October 2025.
  • - Research support for selected participants will begin in December 2025.
  • - LabBase aims to welcome multiple companies and foundations as partners in the future, further broadening opportunities for researchers in both funding acquisition and societal implementation.
