Trip.com Group Unveils Ambitious Plans for Sustainable Global Travel in 2024

Trip.com Group, a prominent player in the global travel industry, has recently published its Sustainability Report for 2024, emphasizing its dedication to fostering an eco-friendly and inclusive travel environment. The report outlines the organization’s achievements under its innovative "Friendly Four" framework, which prioritizes being stakeholder-friendly, community-oriented, family-focused, and environmentally responsible.

Comprehensive Carbon Emissions Data Initiative

In a bid to make sustainable travel attainable for all, Trip.com Group has rolled out a new feature that offers users detailed carbon emissions data for various transportation options, covering flights, car rentals, airport transfers, and trains, particularly in Europe. This initiative aims to empower travelers by enabling them to make greener choices regarding their mobility options. With strong backing from the Association of Car Rental Industry System Standards (ACRISS), users can now compare emissions between electric, hybrid, and traditional vehicles, ensuring informed decisions when selecting rental cars. Furthermore, this feature extends to airport transfers, bolstering the Group’s extensive commitment to sustainability.

The company has also reported significant progress in promoting sustainable travel products, facilitating over 100 million orders in 2024 alone. With the implementation of solar panel systems at its headquarters and various rural retreats, Trip.com Group generated a remarkable 457 MWh of clean electricity, effectively offsetting over 245 tons of carbon emissions. Additionally, as part of its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the company has increased its utilization of green energy in data centers to 42.6%. For the first time, the Sustainability Report comprehensively covers Scope 3 emissions, which include business travel and data center usage, showcasing a thorough approach to environmental accountability.

Country Retreat Programme Expansion

The Country Retreat Programme has been a significant aspect of Trip.com Group’s strategy for enhancing rural development through tourism. The initiative has expanded to 34 sites, creating over 40,000 indirect job opportunities. Importantly, more than 80% of employees in these retreats hail from local communities, resulting in a reported average increase in annual income of USD 5,500 for participating villages. As the program advances, it plans to reach more destinations worldwide, reinforcing its commitment to global tourism development.

Emphasizing Family-Friendly Policies

Trip.com Group is also committed to creating a supportive work environment, with a clear focus on family-oriented policies. Women constitute 57.1% of the group's workforce, with significant representation in management roles. The Group's hybrid working arrangements have been utilized over 630,000 times, saving an estimated 1.25 million commuting hours and providing employees with better work-life flexibility.

To further support working families, Trip.com Group has introduced an additional three days of childcare leave, helping parents strike a better balance between work commitments and family responsibilities. The company has also enhanced its financial assistance offerings for female employees seeking reproductive medical services, including higher subsidies for in vitro fertilization and egg freezing, highlighting its commitment to women’s health and wellness.

Moreover, the childcare subsidy program has provided bonuses for over 900 children, with significant funds disbursed in 2024 alone, reflecting its ongoing commitment to support employees in their family journeys.

Commitment to Strong Governance

Trip.com Group's governance practices received recognition with an A rating from MSCI ESG, affirming its dedication to high corporate governance standards. This year, the Group hosted two partner summits, working closely with over 230 destination marketing organizations to promote inclusive tourism and collaborative development.

CEO Ms. Jane Sun emphasized the necessity of sustainable operations and growth as vital to future competitiveness. She expressed a collective vision, stating, "Together with our users, partners, and employees, we are working to build a future where every journey brings us closer - to one another, and to the perfect trip for a better world."
