New Initiative Aimed at Allergy-Sensitive Travelers
In an effort to address the concerns of travelers with dietary restrictions, MIMARU, a prominent apartment hotel chain managed by Cosmos Hotel Management, has teamed up with Kyocera's matoil to introduce the 'FOOD SAFE PASS'. This initiative was launched in conjunction with SDGs Day on March 17, allowing families who have members with food allergies to travel throughout Japan with peace of mind regarding their dietary needs.
The partnership comes in response to a survey revealing that
45% of individuals with dietary restrictions have canceled trips due to food-related uncertainties. The primary concerns cited by the respondents were a lack of clarity regarding their dietary needs and differences in language and food labeling. This collaboration aims to bridge those gaps and ensure all visitors can enjoy their meals worry-free.
MIMARU's guests, predominantly families visiting Japan, will now receive a
FOOD SAFE PASS upon check-in. This card features a QR code that links to matoil's website, which provides essential information about Japan’s food labeling system and how to navigate dining options safely. Additionally, the reverse side presents an allergen checklist, enabling travelers to communicate their dietary restrictions effectively, even if there are language barriers.
Background: The Challenge of Food Restrictions When Traveling
Travelers with food allergies often experience significant anxiety when planning trips. The survey conducted by matoil highlights that a significant portion of those who have dietary restrictions feel discouraged from traveling due to reasons such as lingering doubts about food safety (78%) and unfamiliarity with labeling guidelines (78%). With these roadblocks in mind, the introduction of the FOOD SAFE PASS aims to foster an environment where food-related anxiety can be eliminated.
Starting November 2024, MIMARU plans to ensure guests can receive meals prepared by matoil directly in their hotel rooms, addressing specific dietary restrictions. Prior to the initiative, guests have expressed their satisfaction, stating that availability of services like matoil has made their trips more enjoyable. Moreover,
58% of those surveyed indicated that the ease of accommodating food allergies was their top consideration when choosing a travel destination.
Enabling Culinary Enjoyment for All
With multiple locations in major cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, MIMARU is set on ensuring that its commitment to making travel accessible for all, including families with dietary restrictions, is realized. They provide various other services tailored to assist families, such as baggage delivery services and children's play areas, ensuring families can focus on creating wonderful memories during their travels.
The FOOD SAFE PASS will allow travelers to not only enjoy meals within MIMARU but also at local restaurants, effectively widening the scope of their dining experiences. Supporting materials such as the allergen checklist and QR code provide additional assurances that align with both organizations' missions towards inclusivity and safety in food consumption.
Toward a Future of Food Barrier Freedom
MIMARU's and matoil’s collaborative initiative doesn't just tackle a superficial problem; it aims to cultivate a more food-inclusive society where everyone can sustain happy and fulfilling dining experiences, irrespective of dietary restrictions. It encapsulates the SDGs’ vision of health and well-being, advocating for the right of all individuals to share culinary journeys without fear or inconvenience.
The anticipated impact of the FOOD SAFE PASS extends beyond enhancing travel comfort; it signifies a shift towards a tourism model that prioritizes food safety and inclusivity. As more travelers resonate with the importance of food freedom, MIMARU and matoil aspire to be at the forefront of this progressive movement, connecting visitors from around the world with Japan's rich culinary landscape without barriers.
