Tokyo Wildlife Survey 2025 Autumn Edition Starts



This autumn marks the third year since the launch of the digital wildlife catalog project, "Tokyo Wildlife Ledger." The initiative invites citizens to participate actively by submitting photos of wildlife using their smartphones. The survey event allows anyone to engage effortlessly and is accompanied by exciting wildlife exploration activities in the Tama and Sayama hills.

As the weather becomes pleasantly cooler, there's no better time to join the "Tokyo Wildlife Survey" and head out into the hilly regions of Tokyo for some wildlife spotting!

Key Details of the Survey


1. Survey Period: From October 15, 2025 (noon) to December 15, 2025 (Monday)
2. Eligibility: Open to everyone wishing to participate
3. How to Participate: Join through the "Biome" app available on your smartphone
4. Prizes: Those meeting certain conditions will be eligible for a lottery to win exciting prizes
5. Autumn Quests: A total of 17 quests tailored for beginners to advanced participants
6. Outdoor Activities: Engage in wildlife spotting in Tokyo's hilly areas!

The event will be conducted in designated nature conservation sites in the Tama Hills and Sayama Hills, which are registered areas committed to biodiversity preservation through community and private-sector efforts. Participants will enjoy engaging wildlife explanations from knowledgeable instructors specializing in insects and plants, with no participation fee required!

Tama Hills Edition


  • - Date: November 3, 2025 (National Holiday)
  • - Time: 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM (approx.)
  • - Location: Matsu no Tani area and nearby green spaces within Tama New Town (Hachioji City and Tama City)
  • - Partners: NPO Fusion Nagai, Green Wise Co., Ltd.
  • - Registration Opens: October 18, 2025, at noon

Sayama Hills Edition


  • - Date: November 24, 2025 (National Holiday)
  • - Time: 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM (approx.)
  • - Location: Totoro Forest, Lots 40 and 47 (a broadleaf forest acquired on the Tokyo side of Sayama Hills)
  • - Partner: Totoro's Hometown Foundation
  • - Registration Opens: November 1, 2025, at noon

About the Tokyo Wildlife Survey and Tokyo Wildlife Ledger


Launched in 2023, the Tokyo Wildlife Survey is part of a project aimed at creating a detailed record of wildlife in Tokyo. Utilizing the smartphone app provided by Biome Co., Ltd., citizens contribute to this participatory research by gathering valuable information alongside experts' research and established datasets. The outcome will contribute to developing the digital wildlife catalog known as the "Tokyo Wildlife Ledger."
