Latvian President Visits Delska's New Sustainable Data Center in Riga

On February 3rd, 2026, Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics attended the unveiling of Delska's new data center in Riga, which boasts an investment of over 30 million euros. This facility is recognized as one of the most advanced and sustainable data centers in the Baltic region, particularly in addressing the growing demands of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC).

During the visit, Delska’s CEO Andris Gailitis provided an overview of the center’s capabilities and the integral role it will play in enhancing Latvia's digital sovereignty and technological resilience. Rinkevics emphasized the significance of data centers in fostering the growth of technology firms and the overall digital landscape in Latvia, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities posed by such institutions.

The 10 MW facility spans a modular area of 7,100 square meters and is designed to accommodate future growth, with a rack capacity of up to 250 kW and potential expansion up to 30 MW on the acquired site. This foresight demonstrates the company's commitment to sustainable and efficient infrastructure development.

Gailitis also pointed out the global trends impacting the data center industry, such as the rapid adoption of AI and the increasing pressure on energy resources. Due to capacity constraints, many companies are relocating their data infrastructure to regions with better energy access and space for expansion. This trend underscores the growing competitiveness of the Baltic states as premier data center locations.

Delska's new installation is fully powered by renewable energy sourced from wind and solar parks, as well as hydroelectric power from Northern Europe. Additionally, backup generators utilize renewable diesel from Neste MY, and excess energy produced during maintenance operations will be redirected to local consumers, further minimizing waste. The company is also exploring collaborations with Riga’s municipal heating provider for repurposing waste heat to support residential buildings.

To achieve high energy efficiency, the facility has been constructed to meet standards below 1.3, incorporating advanced cooling solutions like hot aisle containment and state-of-the-art cooling systems such as Weiss Technik Vindur® CoolW@ll. It supports both air and direct liquid cooling options, tailored for high-density GPU workloads.

This data center has been certified as Tier III Design by the Uptime Institute, with expectations to receive Tier III Facility certification by March. The official inauguration of the EU North Riga LV DC1 is set for April 8, marking a significant milestone for both Delska and the Latvian technology landscape.
