Collaborative Development of Optical Connectors
Recently, SANWA Technologies, Inc. has established a contract with Hakusan Co., Ltd. and US Conec Ltd. focusing on the co-development and multi-sourcing of Very Small Form Factor (VSFF) MMC multi-core optical connectors and TMT ferrules. This partnership is set to bolster the supply chain in the rapidly growing field of advanced optical connection solutions.
SANWA Technologies is incorporating the industry-recognized MMC optical connector into its existing offerings that already include the VSFF MDC duplex (two-core) optical connectors and adapters. This addition positions their portfolio to better meet the needs of high-density optical connectivity in modern applications. On the other hand, Hakusan will leverage its extensive experience in low-loss MT ferrule technology to manufacture and supply TMT ferrules compatible with both 12-core and 16-core variations, thus enhancing the partnership's capacity to meet market demand efficiently.
As the optical architecture for next-generation hyperscale data centers evolves, there is a notable shift from traditional MPO cabling infrastructure to more reliable and high-density MMC optical connector platforms. This transition not only ensures easier construction and superior performance but also plays a crucial role in new network and server cluster technologies adopting embedded optical and Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) frameworks.
Insights from Leadership
Akitaka Ishikawa, COO & CSO of SANWA Technologies, expressed, “We are excited to announce our expanded licensing and partnership with US Conec regarding the MMC optical connectors. This partnership enables us to amplify our initiatives surrounding MMC and MDC connector technologies and their ecosystems, thanks in large part to Hakusan's specialized expertise. Working alongside these industry leaders, we are poised to respond swiftly to the rapidly growing market need.”
Furthermore, Ryuu Kinhara, Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer of Hakusan, stated, “It is a privilege to collaborate with US Conec and SANWA Technologies on the evolution of the MMC ecosystem. Our high-performance TMT ferrules, built upon over 35 years of MT ferrule precision technology, will support the next generation of optical architectures. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to providing reliable, high-density solutions for our global customers.”
Mike Hughes, Vice President of Product Management at US Conec, also shared his thoughts: “We take pride in working with reliable suppliers to expand the MMC ecosystem. Both SANWA Technologies and Hakusan have a strong track record in connector supply and outstanding customer support, significantly contributing to establishing a stable supply system in the MMC optical connector market.”
Future Engagements
The collaboration reveals not only the strength of partnerships in innovation but also sets a pathway for future advancements in optical technologies. All three companies will showcase their MMC optical connector solutions at the OFC, scheduled to occur from March 17 to 19, 2026, in Los Angeles, California. Attendees can visit the booths of US Conec at Booth 1938, SANWA Technologies at Booth 1017, and Hakusan at Booth 309 to learn more about their cutting-edge products.
