Shipley Do-Nuts Expands Presence with First Virginia Location Opening

Shipley Do-Nuts Launches in Virginia: A New Chapter for Sweet Lovers

Shipley Do-Nuts, the largest donut and kolache brand in the United States, has officially opened its doors in Virginia. The new shop, located at 8004 Timberlake Road in Lynchburg, marks a significant step in the brand's ongoing expansion, now reaching its 14th state.

Founded in 1936 in Texas, Shipley Do-Nuts is beloved for its fresh, handmade donuts, with over 60 varieties available. Customers can indulge in the signature hot glazed donuts, which are prepared in the iconic hexagon shape. The menu also features a variety of filled, iced, and cake donuts, alongside bear claws, kolaches, and freshly brewed coffee.

Among the standout offerings from Shipley are the kolaches, a unique breakfast pastry filled with savory ingredients. Customers can enjoy a range of flavors, including classics like Bacon, Egg & Cheese and Sausage, Jalapeno & Cheese, which are freshly made in-house. This introduction of Shipley’s delicious pastries in Virginia is set to delight locals and establish new family traditions.

The owner of the Lynchburg location, Jody Mask, a businessman from Lexington, Virginia, expressed his excitement about bringing a slice of Texas to Virginia residents. He recalls fond memories of visiting Shipley with his family during his time in Texas, and now he looks forward to sharing that experience with Virginians. As he puts it, “I can’t wait to introduce the world’s greatest donut to Virginians, who I hope will start their own family traditions with us.”

The decision to open in Virginia is part of Shipley's dedicated strategy to expand into the Eastern Seaboard, with franchise opportunities available not just in Lynchburg but also in cities like Richmond, Roanoke, and Virginia Beach. This growth has come alongside similar expansions in surrounding states, as their first North Carolina shop opened earlier this year and their third site in Maryland shortly after.

Keith Sizemore, Senior Vice President of Franchise Development, acknowledges the excitement and anticipation surrounding the brand’s expansion into Virginia. He remarks, “Entering Virginia marks an important step in our growth strategy as we continue to grow our footprint along the East Coast.” This expansion taps into a burgeoning interest in homemade, quality donuts and pastries that customers throughout the region are eager to try.

In addition to this opening, Shipley Do-Nuts is also actively recruiting franchisees throughout Virginia and into nearby locations in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida. The brand’s recent surge in growth is notable; available territories are open across 46 states, with exciting plans including over 30 new locations set for South Florida and New Mexico.

Founded more than eight decades ago, Shipley Do-Nuts has earned its reputation as one of the oldest and largest donut brands in the country, proudly serving generations of customers. With more than 375 company-owned and franchised locations, the brand continues to thrive and innovate within the quick-service restaurant industry. Their recognition extends to a ranking of No. 121 on Entrepreneur magazine's Franchise 500® 2025 list and No. 1 in their category.
