Nscale, Microsoft, and Industry Giants Forge New AI Horizons

In a landmark collaboration, Nscale has partnered with Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Caterpillar to create a state-of-the-art AI computing facility in West Virginia. This venture will deliver an impressive 1.35 gigawatts (GW) of computing capacity through the NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 GPUs, signifying a major step forward in AI infrastructure solutions.

The Monarch Compute Campus

Nscale, now the steward of the Monarch Compute Campus, acquired the American Intelligence Power Corporation (AIPCorp), which includes this expansive 2,250-acre campus in Mason County, West Virginia. This facility is pioneering as the first AI microgrid in the U.S. that has received state certification, with the potential to scale energy generation well beyond 8 GW in the future.

Signing a letter of intent with Microsoft marks a significant milestone for Nscale as they set out to build and operate a cutting-edge data center that supports AI applications. The deployment of the NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 GPUs will roll out in phases beginning late 2027, establishing the site as one of the largest dedicated AI computing installations globally.

Strategic Infrastructure Development

This new infrastructure project isn’t just about numbers; it represents the strategic importance of AI in our increasingly digital economy. The collaboration with Microsoft includes a multi-year initial computing service contract, paired with a long-term data center lease that reflects the project’s considerable scale. Its capacity expansion will be facilitated by close proximity to critical AI centers and cloud infrastructure located in Ashburn and Chicago, ensuring low-latency connections for AI workloads.

Collaboration with Caterpillar

Further backing this ambitious initiative, Nscale has entered a strategic partnership with Caterpillar to deploy natural gas generators from the G3500 series. This infrastructure will support 2 GW of power generation in the first half of 2028, crucial for the effective functioning of the NVIDIA Vera Rubin DSX AI Factory design. Caterpillar’s solutions offer rapid deployment and efficiency, crucial for meeting the high-energy demands of AI data centers.
