S.RIDE Expands International Ride-Hailing App Partnerships with Uber for Seamless Taxi Booking

S.RIDE Partners with Uber for Enhanced Taxi Services

S.RIDE Inc., headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, is making waves in the transportation sector by expanding its international ride-hailing app collaborations through a new partnership with Uber. This strategic move aims to provide tourists visiting Japan with easier access to taxis via the familiar Uber app.

Launch Details

Beginning in May 2026, the partnership will initially roll out in the Yokohama area—one of Japan’s prime tourist destinations. Following this launch, S.RIDE plans to gradually extend the service to Tokyo and other regions where their existing taxi service operates, ensuring tourists can seamlessly book rides using the Uber app. This collaboration will allow S.RIDE’s partnered taxi services to be available, even during peak demand times.

Enhancing Tourist Convenience

The main advantage of this partnership is that it enables international visitors to utilize a platform they are already comfortable with—the Uber app. By leveraging local taxi networks operated by S.RIDE, tourists will experience a smoother and more efficient transport option without language barriers or unfamiliar payment methods. This effort aligns with the Japanese government’s ambitious goal of welcoming 60 million international travelers by 2030, underscoring the need for improved transportation accessibility across Japan, especially in tourist hotspots like Tokyo and Yokohama.

Bridging Gaps in Transportation

As Japan continues to attract foreign tourists, creating a user-friendly transport environment is imperative. With S.RIDE’s existing infrastructure, which includes approximately 20,000 taxis nationwide and 12,000 in Tokyo, they are poised to cater to the rising demand from international tourists. The 'S.RIDE Global Roaming' initiative, which includes this partnership with Uber, aims to address these needs, ensuring that visitors can travel through Japan effortlessly.

In addition, S.RIDE uses existing systems for this integration, meaning there’s no requirement for taxi operators to invest in new hardware or undertake major system upgrades. This minimizes strain on taxi businesses while simultaneously improving service efficiency at airports, hotels, and key tourist attractions.

Comments from S.RIDE Leadership

Yohei Hashimoto, the President of S.RIDE, expressed excitement over the partnership, highlighting its role in making taxi services more accessible for international travelers. He stated, “We are delighted to create an environment where overseas users can conveniently utilize taxis in Japan. Starting from the culturally rich Yokohama, we will gradually expand to areas like Tokyo to provide visitors with a reassuring and comfortable transportation experience. With over 10,000 partnered vehicles in Tokyo, we believe that locating taxis will become easier, improving the travel experience for both tourists and business travelers visiting these vibrant cities.”

As part of this initiative, S.RIDE and Uber aim to deepen their partnership further, contributing innovative solutions to Japan's mobility landscape. This collaboration is set to redefine how visitors navigate their travel in Japan, blending local expertise with global technology.
