Denver's 2030 Gay Games Bid: Uniting Community for a Bright Future

Denver's Ambitious Bid for the 2030 Gay Games

In a recent flurry of activities, Denver officials, community leaders, and LGBTQIA2S+ organizations united to showcase a strong support system in their quest to host the 2030 International Gay Games. The city welcomed the official site inspectors from the Federation of Gay Games (FGG), marking a pivotal week in Denver's journey to potentially host this prestigious event.

From July 15-18, 2025, the Gay Games Denver 2030 Bid Committee partnered with local governments to facilitate a comprehensive site visit. This involved the inspectors touring various venues earmarked for 36 sporting events and numerous cultural activities. The streets of Denver transformed into a vibrant hub as the inspectors were not just shown the proposed venues, but also got to experience local attractions, from the iconic Red Rocks to the beloved Casa Bonita. This was a chance to illustrate what visitors might experience at a Denver Gay Games.

The highlight of the week was a Community Night attended by nearly 700 supporters. In a powerful demonstration of collective resolve, attendees rallied around the bid, with Governor Jared Polis, Mayor Mike Johnston, and other prominent figures voicing their unyielding support. Performances from local artists and drag queens enlivened the event, embodying the city's vibrant and inclusive culture. Mayor Johnston emphasized, “We’re proud to be a city that leads with love, equity, and opportunity for all,” painting a picture of Denver as a welcoming host.

Over the last year, Denver has transitioned from being one of over 25 cities competing for the Games to among the two finalists. As the city prepares for a final presentation in Valencia, Spain this October, the Bid Committee is mobilizing to strengthen their position before the FGG. The community's backing is more important than ever; efforts are ongoing to gather letters of support, volunteer assistance, and promotional videos from individuals wanting to showcase why Denver deserves the honor.

The Gay Games embrace principles of participation, inclusion, and personal best, and are open to everyone, reflecting Dr. Tom Waddell's original vision when the event first took place in San Francisco in 1982. With past Games held in cities like New York, Sydney, and Amsterdam, Denver aims to inspire and cultivate a welcoming and diverse atmosphere if chosen to host.

As Denver gears up for a strong showing in Valencia, all eyes will turn to the Colorado city. The Bid Committee underlines that their ultimate goal is to not just bring the Games to Denver but to further the conversation of inclusion and community support.

Anyone keen on supporting the bid is encouraged to engage via the GGDEN2030 website, subscribe for updates, and participate in upcoming events. The community's involvement is crucial in these final stages, as Denver aspires to unite under the banner of
