American Warrior Association Unveils Nationwide Campaign to Combat Moral Injury with Documentary Series

A New Dawn for Moral Injury Awareness

The American Warrior Association (AWA) is breaking new ground with a national campaign focused on increasing awareness about the complexities surrounding moral injury. This initiative coincides with the highly anticipated premiere of a five-part documentary series, The Journey Unbound, set to air on May 14, 2026. The launch aligns with Texas's designation of this date as Moral Injury Awareness Day, marking a significant milestone in the journey toward greater understanding and support for veterans and first responders.

This campaign seeks to shed light on the often misunderstood concept of moral injury – a condition that arises when individuals experience a deep conflict between their actions and their moral beliefs. Unlike conventional mental health diagnoses, moral injury does not always fit neatly into clinical parameters, necessitating a more holistic approach rooted in community support, faith, and connection.

The documentary series The Journey Unbound is hosted by Josh Jakub, a former Navy SEAL and Director of Men's Programs with the AWA. As he travels across the nation, he engages with service members and first responders, collecting their stories and insights on the challenges they face on an emotional and spiritual level. The series highlights how connections to faith and community can play pivotal roles in the healing process for those wrestling with moral injury.

A Call for Community and Understanding

As moral injury continues to resonate within the military and first responder communities, the AWA acknowledges the need for broader conversation surrounding mental health resilience. With the launch of its R3 (Respond. Restore. Resolve.) program, AWA emphasizes proactive measures designed to prevent moral injury from escalating into crisis situations. This initiative provides first responders with vital resources through peer-led, non-clinical channels. By integrating these programs into their routines, first responders can prioritize their mental well-being without the fear of stigma or administrative hurdles.

Legislative and Media Engagement

In conjunction with the campaign, AWA members, documentary contributors, and program participants will partake in various outreach efforts. They will be available for broadcast and podcast interviews, speaking engagements, and panel discussions aimed at educating the public and legislative bodies about the reality of moral injury.

The documentary series is expected to be a catalyst for change, amplifying the voices of those affected and fostering a deeper understanding of the need for community-based support. The national expansion of the R3 program aims to create scalable solutions for first responders' wellness, forming a comprehensive framework that can be adapted across the country.

About the American Warrior Association

Founded in Fort Worth, Texas, the American Warrior Association is a registered nonprofit dedicated to restoring hope and purpose in the lives of military service members, veterans, and first responders. Through initiatives like Warrior's Refuge, and the R3 framework, AWA addresses the pressing needs associated with moral injury and cultivates support systems that empower individuals to reclaim their lives. All donations to the organization are directed entirely to program delivery and warrior care, ensuring that every contribution directly enhances the lives of those being served.

As The Journey Unbound prepares to make its debut, anticipation builds not only for the stories that will be shared but also for the conversations that will follow, urging society to recognize and respond to the invisible wounds borne by those who serve.
