May Mobility Launches Driverless Rides in Peachtree Corners, Georgia



In a groundbreaking development for autonomous vehicle technology, May Mobility has announced the launch of its first commercial driverless rides in the City of Peachtree Corners, Georgia. This marks the company's third deployment of driverless operations in the United States, and it signifies a major milestone in the evolution of mobility-as-a-service (MaaS).

May Mobility previously showcased its autonomous vehicle capabilities in Sun City, Arizona, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. The shift to completely driverless operations in Peachtree Corners comes after a successful period of testing with safety drivers in place, allowing the company to fine-tune its technology and prepare for public service.

Collaborating with the Curiosity Lab at Peachtree Corners, T-Mobile, and the local government, May Mobility's autonomous Toyota Sienna units have been providing rides since September 2024. Now, passengers can experience rides without a human driver in the vehicle, reinforcing the potential of autonomous technology in urban environments. The operational area includes key local destinations along Technology Parkway with designated stops at popular locations such as hotels, restaurants, and the Innovation Center.

Edwin Olson, CEO of May Mobility, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, highlighting the importance of collaboration with communities to address transportation challenges effectively. “This launch reinforces the importance of working with cities and communities everywhere to solve real transportation challenges,” he stated.

One of the most significant innovations included in May Mobility's service is its patented Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) system. This technology allows the vehicles to constantly learn and adapt to dynamic road conditions, developing new solutions for unpredictable driving scenarios, therefore ensuring a safer ride experience for passengers.

Brian Johnson, the City Manager of Peachtree Corners, pointed out how the Curiosity Lab has helped May Mobility refine its operations, making this transition to driverless service possible in such a short time frame. “T-Mobile's 5G technology is a key component that offers low latency and high bandwidth connectivity, ensuring smoother operations and enhancing the safety of riders,” he explained.

The service will be available to the public Monday through Friday between 9:30 AM and 3:00 PM, with each vehicle capable of accommodating up to five passengers. Riders can easily book trips to any of the eight stops using the May Mobility app, a user-friendly platform designed to facilitate on-demand rides.

Looking ahead, May Mobility is planning further expansions in Peachtree Corners and is set to introduce autonomous vehicles in metro Atlanta in collaboration with Lyft later this year. Moreover, additional driverless deployments are expected to be announced throughout 2025, showcasing the company’s commitment to advancing autonomous mobility solutions.

In addition to its impressive operational achievements, May Mobility has also formed a strategic alliance with Tecnobus, a European electric minibus manufacturer, aimed at developing a new AV platform that caters to larger passenger capacities.
